If Statement No. 1 means that
a republican legislature is to go
to Salem and elect a democratic
United States senator, then we
are dead against Statement No.

Jonathan Uourne can thank
Statement No. 1 for his election,
and for that reason, if for no

John 11 Uailey, of I!uxton, was

that he had about made up his

of the county say they are enti

Dr. Wood, lie was born forty
five years ago at Glencoe, in this
county, has lived here all his life,
and his nomination and election
means much to this district. The
day has come when the state needs
live and energetic men for sena

the record of the next session
at Salem shall not go down in his
tory as did that of last winter and
previous ones not forgotten by
the voters of this district and all
over the state, and if we are not
mistaken the electors will see that
men of integrity and "sand" will
be elected to represent them.
Dr. Wood is such a man, and the
people will not have to look along

candi-1 Notice is hereby given that I, the un.
at
reform is going on and it must go
on for theweltare of our nation. It
cannot be stopped. What we want
in this country is less law and more
justice. As it is now, the anus ol
justice are defeated by what is call
ed the brilliancy of the law.
The less law the more perfect
justice being dealt out by honesty
and purity. That is the base for
a nation to stand 011, and it will
never totter 011 its foundation.
I presume some one will say
most of those people out of employ
ment are tramps and people that
don't care for work if they can get
along without it. Let me say that
in New Zealand, a country of about
900,000 people, about the size of
Kansas, has no such people as
tramps, because they have the most
perfect government known to the
world (co-operative). Money does
rule there, llecause the people do.
There are 110 land frauds operating
there. The government controls
the railroads. New Zealand builds
her own railroads and has 22,000
miles, costing So millions and says
taxation is mostly singletax and
they have a progressive income tax.
The poor are taken care of and so
is old age by pensions. They
have postal savings banks. Count
ing that as a state, what one state
can do, others can do as well. That
government runs the telephones,
telegraphs, rating 500 per cent less
than our Western Union, and pays
a profit. Such is the government
we should aspire to have and pros-Ir-
