lllllsboro Independent. B. .W. BATH. Eflitor and Proprietor. TAKE NOTICE. Subscribers In Arrears. The iK.stmaster general has is sued the following order, which went into euecc January 1. it applies to all newspapers which circulate through the mails: A reasonable time will be al lowec' publishers to secure re newal i of subscriptions, but un less subscriptions are expressly renewed after the term for which they are paid, within the follow ing periods: Dailies, w ithin three months; Weeklies, within one year; they shall not be counted in the legitimate list of subscribers, and copies mailed on account thereof shall not be accepted for mailing at the second class jwstage rate of one cent a pound, but may be mailed at the transient second class postage rate of one cent for each four ounces or fraction thereof, prepaid by stamps af fixed. The order means that subscrib ers to The Indejiendent who are in arrears for one year or more must renew their subscriptions in order to enable us to continue sending their papers through the mails. Look at the date beside your name on your paper and govern yourself accordingly. Thk Independent, The kind ol a cow that dairymen ought to keep, says the Corvallis Times, is illustrated in the doings of a Hulstein at the college. A re cord of her milk yield for a year has been kept, and it ended the evening ot December 31st. It showed an aggregate tnilk yield of 13,741 pounds, carrying 446S5 pound- of butter l it. The equiva lent in butter is 520.97 pounds ol butter, and at the current prices of the vcar atnrreeated $170. The ost of the feed tor the year was $ 40, showing a net profit of $130 for the year. She was not pushed in the feeding, but was only given such rations as any dairyman would provide in the businesslike conduct of his establishment. What is an Editor! A little boy in a neighboring town was given the stunt by his father to write on "Kditors," and here is the result: 'I don't know how newspapers come to e in the world. I don't think God does, for he haint got nothing to say about them and edi tors fn the Bible. I think the edi tor is ot the missing liuks you read of, and stayed in the busbes until after the flood; and then come out and wrote the thing up, and has been here ever since. I don't think he ever died. I never saw a dead one and never heard ot one getting a nickle. Our paper is a mighty good one, but the editor goes with out underclothes nil winter and don't wear any socks and paw ain't paiil his subscription since the pa per started. I ast paw if that was why the editor had to suck the juice out of snowballs in winter and go to bed when he had a shirt washed in summer, And then paw took me out into the woodshed and he licked me awful hard. If the editor makes a mistake folks say he ought to be hung; but if the doctor makes a mistake he buries them and people dassent say nothing be, cause doctors can read and write Latin. When the editor makes a mistake there is lawsuits, swearing ami a big luss, but if the doctor makes one there is a funeral, cut flowers ami perfect silence. A doc tor can use a word a yard long with out his or anylnidy knowing what it means; but if the editor uses one he has to spell it. If the doctor goes to see another man's wife he charges tor the visit, but if the edi tor goes he gets a charge of buck shot. When the doctor gets drunk it is a case of being overcome by the heat and if he dies its troin heart trouble; when the editor gets drunk its a case of too much lioo.e ami if he dies it's the jimjras Any old college can make a doc t-r; an editor has to tie born." Rank Foolishness. "When attacked by a cough or a cold, or when your throat is sore, it is rank foolishness to take any other medicine than Ir. King's New Dis covery, say v.. i. i.iimMge. ol ICmpira, d. "I have used New Discovery seven years and I know it is the U-st remedy on earth for coughs anil colds, croup, and all throat and lung troubles. My child ren are subject to croup, but New Discovery quickly cutes every at tack." Known the world over as the King of throat and lung reme dies.
