The Christmas trees on Christ
mas Kve were well attended, both
churches having all that could com
fortably be seated. The cap of
Santa Claus at the Congregational
tree caught on fire from a candle
and for a half minute things looked
lively, but the blaze was soon ex
tinguished and things moved on in
the usual way.

family of this city.
Dewit C. Merrill, who has lived
for a great many years about two
miles south of Reedville, died from
Mrs. true D'Atley.
Mrs. EflTie d'Atley, well known
in HillsWo as the daugnter of the
late Charles Stewart, pioneer of
1S43, is reported dead in Montana.
She visited relatives in this vicinity
last fall, and but recently departed
for 'her home. She was compelled
to travel by stage through a portion
of Idaho, and the vehicle over
turned, so severely injuring the!
woman that it was necessary to con
vey her to a hospital, twenty miles
from the scene of the accident.
When they arrived where medical
aid could be secured she was in a
very bad condition and died within
a few hours afterward.
Mrs. d'Atley was wedded the sec
ond time, her first husband being
