Both Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hahn, are young people highly esteemed around Glencoe and Mountaindale and have the hearty good wishes of their many friends. We are one day laU this week, caused by the non-arrival of the beautiful Holi day covers for The Independent. We did not give up hope of their arrival un til Tuesday night, when a representative of this paper had to go to Portland and order paper, borders and cuts suitable for the issue. This has been done at conmuerauie expense, uut, though we should have preferred the beautiful cov ers ordered a month ago, we feel that The Independent this week is a very creditable paper and will be appreciated by its many readers. We intended this issue of The Inde pendent to consist of 20 pages, but the failure of our colored newspaper covers to arrive has made that impossible and considerable good reading is omitted on that account. They were shipped from the East more than a month ago and should have reached Portland the first of this week at the latest, but are snow bound somewhere. We regret their non-arrival for they would have made this paper one of the prettiest ever is- sue I in this county. However, The In dependent Is a pretty good holiday edi tion as it is, containing much of Interest to the general reader, and very much of Importance to those wishing to purchase Christmas presents. Our merchants have patronised ua liberally this year, have large and well selected stocks to select from and buyera should look over their stocks before going elsewhere. Read every ad. carefully, visit the deal ers who have tendered you an invitation to do so, and you will without doubt find just what you want. The Inde pendent is sent to .a large number of persons who are not subscribers this week. It does not cost them a cent, and If after reading it over they feel that they would like its weekly visits for a year, send in or bring one dollar. Thauking our patn ns for their liberal patronage, as shown in the paper today, we hope they will receive a large share of the trade that the holidays demand. Postponed.
