Jackson is re-nominated and elected as treasurer of Washington county. He has made a good official, worthy and courteous to all, and is an old soldier. The salary is small, in fact too small, but Mr. Jackson needs the money and has never complained. Ilia friends are going to rally nsxt Friday and land him it possible. Mrs. Charles Crocker died at her home, southeast of this city, last Sun day, aged 35 years, and the funeral was held from the Methodist church on Tuesday. She was born in rules, Cook county, Illinois, January 20, 1871, and came to Oregon In 188S. At tbe age of 17 she joined the M. E. church at Forest Grove, and in 181W married Charles Crocker in Portland. The deceased leaves her husband and two children, Bessie, aged 5, and Johnnie, aged 3, On Wednesday J. M. Greear purchas ed of Schultnerich Bros, seventy-two feet of laud on Second street, adjoining the opera house building, which Includes the building now occupied by the Gem restaurant, the consideration being 2,000. Mr. Greear will at once erect i brick store building, to be used by him self, as his increasing Hour and feed bnsi nesa demands larger quarters. This piece of property was bought by the Schulmerlch Bros, only a short time ago for t'.H)0. The Ladies Civic Improvement club which was organized a year ago as an auxiliary to the State Suffrage associa tion, was reorganised Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. E. Thorne, The suffrage work, requiring more time than it has been possible to devote to it while the two societies were combined, it was decided to have two aeperate or ganixations. The Civic Improvement and Political Study club will meet on the fourth Tuesday evening of each month. The Suffrage club will meet on the second Tuesday afternoon of the month. More satisfactory work will be the result of the dissolution of the so ciety. Tbe officers elected for the Im provement club are Mrs Imogene Bath, nrMldent! He has not fully decided, but definite announo ment will be made later. Rev. Gilpatrick, S. S. Barnes and Mrs. W. E. Thorne and Mrs. D. W. Bath at tended the West Willamette Association of the Congregational churches and min isters held in Beaverton Wednesday. Mr. H. R. Emmott left last Saturday for Tacotua, where bis mother was very ill and on receiving news of her death, Mrs. Emmott left on the Sunday even ing train to attend the funeral which was held on Monday. Mrs. W. P. Tucker, who baa taught in the Sixth grade department during the absence of Miss Humphreys, resigned her position last Friday. Mrs. Tucker made an excellent teacher and was well liked by her pupils. Dr. Llnklater recently received a quantity of nuts from Geo. Hutchins, of Kent, England, a former resident of Laurel. Included in the lot were chest nuts, beechnuts, walnuts, cobbnuts and Alberts. The doctor has had them planted on his lot north of his residence. No school next Friday-legal holiday. Mrs. U. 01. Max Crandall returned from Tbe Dalles last Monday and is assisting in the county clerk's office during the rush, caused by the approaching primary elec tion. Wm. J. Clarke, republican candidate for State Printer, is a well known prac tical printer. He is a son of that old time editor and publisher, 8. A. Clarke. He asks all old timers and their sons and all others to vote for him primary day, April 20th. His name is first on the list of printers. The street car matter hangs just where It did last week. It is expected the of ficials of the United Railways company will be here soon to confer with hecity council, when the right-of-way question will be settled, satisfactory to all con cerued, it is huped. More than five miles of the new rail road is now completed and the track is in fine condition. There are now about twenty-five teams doing grading work, but this number is no where near enough. As soon as more men can be put on the grade, track laying will be continued. New Green Houae for Illllakaro W. II. Morton and son, of Beaverton, j were ii town Monday wi:h the object of ' securing dt-siraMe land for an up-to-date greenhouse. They have decided to move their greenhouse at Beaverton here and have len looking at several pieces of land. It is their intention to erect two 120 foot buildings, and have several acres for their nursery stork. They are now furnishing Portland mar kets with the finest lilies obtainable, but have been handicapped tor space. Mr. Morton is well known as a nursery and greenhouse man, and he is confident that a greenhouse will do well here. Owing to bis present crop of set plants and young flowers he will not be able to leave bis present place until about tbe first of June. Wilcox-Wnggener. One of the prettiest weddings of the season wss that which took place Wed nesday, April 11. The contracting par ties were George II. wilcox ami miss Lura Waggener, both of this city. Mr. Wilcox is well known as the efficient as sessor of Washington county, and Miss Waggener is one of our most popular and highly respected young ladies. The ceremony was performed at 2 .30 p. m. at the Tualatin Hotel, tbe residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. Waggener, the parents of the bride. The parlors of the hotel had been tastefully decorated with cher ry blossoms and Oregon grape. Promptly as the hour arrived tbe cou ple filed in to the strains of Mendels sohn's wedding march, with Miss Wilms Waggeper at the piano. The beautiful ring ceremony was used by Rey. Henry L. Bates, of Pacific University, Forest Grove. Afterwards the nappy couple received the congratulations of all those present, and light refreshments were served. The presents were numerous and beautiful. Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox left soon after for a short wedding trip, and upon their return they will be at borne to their friends in Hillsboro after April 25th.
