Crop Report. Th teinraturea daring the week were higher than usual and no rain full, excrpt small amount near the Inane diate coast. The warm and dry weath r caused late erupt to mature rapidly, and hop picking in now general and prone pU'klng has Leun in many orchards. No lice or mold ia reported in the hope and the crop ia taming oat Letter than ex pec-tod a few week ago. With anoth other week or ten days of farorable meat her the bulk of the hop crop will be safely housed. I'runea indicate bet ter yields than last year but consider ably less than r full crop. Threshing is now practically completed and the grain crop it Is thought will about equal that of last year. Pasturage ia Tery short aod stock is losing flesh, especially in the dairy districts w here the supply of milk is even less than usual at this time of the yesr. Corn is doing well and the crop of matured corn will be larger than usual, if the weather con tinues good for a week or two longer. Potatoes badly need rain and this crop ia uneven, its condition being dependent uon the soil and the time of planting. Potatoes planted late on high land are the poorest. Pears are plentiful. Ap ples are small In size and about half of a full crop of late varieties ia indicated. Tillamook is Weary. It is not surprising: that the people of Tillamook county take little or no ink-rust in new railroad propositions, for they have been fooled so many times that it is almost impossible to create any enthiiHiasm or confidence. Unfor tunate fur Tillamook, the Southern Pa cific claims this county as its territory, and like the dog in the manger, it won't build itself or allow others to, conse quently railroad promoters, men who haven't a dollar to pat into a railroad, find this a splendid field in which to build castles in the air, with the expec tation of securing a right-of-way, gratus, and a big bonus. We may state right here, that as far as the people of Tilla mook county are concerned, they do not intend to go down in their jeans to pro cure a right-of-way and big bonus for promoters to work a nice little "graft." Every business enterprise, every from in the county, was started without a sub sidy, and we sar, if a railroad is a pay ing investment, then let those who want to build railroads do so with their own money and on their own merits, the same as the manufacturer, business man or farmer would do. The railway promoters Lave monkeyed with Til la tnook ople too long already. They have accomplished nothing, for as soon as they find they cannot get a right-of way and a subsidy they drop out of ex istence. We may just as well tell rail road promoters that the people of this county do not propose to be "grafted" for the sake of getting a railroad. And w hen Tillamook does get a railroad we hope it will be a direct line to Portland and indcendent of the big railroad companies. Tillamook Headlight. The Ilendul wire hair brush Is guar anteed to remove dandruff, keep it re moved, stop the hair from falling out and promote its growth. A trial will prove this to be true. Delta Drug Store. The price of butter has again gone up, having advanced from 50 cents to 70 cents a roll in the past two weeks. The rise is due to the dry weather, which has had the effect of curtailing the sup ply of butter in the country adjacent to Astoria. The merchants here now pay the farmers (SO cents a roll of butter and retail it for 70 cents. Of late California and Portland butter has been shipped Into Astoria, the local creameries being unable to supply the demand. The butter industry has not been sufficiently developed here, and as a consequence considerable money is sent to Portland and California every year for butter. However, the farmers are going in for dairying on a larger scale, and condi tions are showing improvement every year. Astoria Herald. Good advice to women.
