Kabul Kmil U. Hirsch, of Chicago, probably the most distinguished rabbi in America, will preach in the Audi torium at the I-ewis and Clark fair on Sunday, July 2. The Trail shows are not permitted to run on Sun days. The biggest patriotic celebration ever held in the west will be that at the Lewis and Clark exposition on the fourth of July. The commercial organizations of the city and the management of the exposition will co-operate in making the celebration an uproarious success. In the evening there wiil be elaborate pyro technic displays on Guild's Lake, and Mount Hood will be illuminated by the une of a threat quantity of red fire. The Lewia and Clark exposition will run until Uctobur 15. A daily average no larger than that of the first three weeks would give nearly a million paid admixHions, which many experienced ex position men declared before the 0n ing of the Fuir would be as large an at tendance as reasonably could be expect ed from an exposition so far from the great centers of imputation. But it the history of all expositions that the first month's attendance is the smallest of all, and Director Wakefield counts up on a paid attendance far exceeding one million. Hotel liooklngs in Portland in dicale a far largor attendance for July and AuguHt, while it is not to he doubt ed that September and the closing days of the Fair in October will bring the largest crowds of all.
