Hhe refused to give her reasons for not claiming the money during her lifetime' Hhe was married to Har vey 8pears in Newton, Kan , In 1886. Letters bear out the woman's asser tions about the money. He has made a cenaus of the births in the city, and finds that Fifth avenue has the lowest birth rate of any street In town. The heaviest birth rate Is on the F.ist Bide, near Division street, where the conditions are the reverse of those In Fifth ave nue. The coming census by the health department will determine not only what street, hut what house, produces the most b.tbles. Fifteen deputies have already been detailed on the work, and the number will be increased to&lxiut 400 in a few weeks. The body was entirely atrip ped of clolhir.g, a handkerchief was tlvhtlv twisted about her neck, the - w head was a mass of bruises, and there were evidences of an outrage, Two negroes were seen In the vlcin ity of where the body was found and search la beluir made for them. If caught they will probably be lyicb ed. The girl, who wes about to leave for the northern part of the state to take up a homestead claim, had been In Little Falls purchasing supplies. She left there for DarMi g, from which station she waa to walk to her home, about two miles, di tnt. After leaving L tiling she was not seen attain until her body was found. After a few day in Portland he will go to bis home at Roseburg, where he will remain until the cases are finished. He will not return to Washington until after the trials.
