WAS A TELLING BLOW Assembled Thousands Heard it and Were Concinced. SEN. VUfilKIL AT I'OKLM liBWVE He l'avs Ills hriruriN to Die IH'inocrntk' Part). Popo- At two uYl' ck lu.-t Monday an iiuue-iisithroi.g met I'. S. (Senator .tlitcfiuil'm ihii auiiitory ot liirsti Hall at Forest (irovo. The uniting was called to order by W. V. Wood chairman of the republican County Central I'oiniuittee, who introiluced Mayor Hughes of Forest drove as the chairman ol the day. After a selection hail been rendered by the Fore-t Orove band the speaker was introiluced. A ftorm of applause greeted Senator Mitchell's apa-nr-ance. The orator thanked the peo ple for giviug him the privilege of a Idressiug mi great a body of the electors of Washington county. Mr. Mitchell tirst spoke of a local matter, the quadrant land case. He said that persuant to the action of the mass meeting held at Duxton last summer he had looked up the case at Washington immedately thereafter where lie found that the record of appeal had not been com pleted. This he had made jierfect w hen the Attorney (Jeiiernl in Jan uary made a motion to have the case advanced on the docket. The motion was allowed and the (Quad rant case took position with other advanced cases. The argument will bo made In (h tolier or November of this year, on the assembling of the Supreme Court. The court will then take the case under advisement and w ill probably render a decession in I H-cembcr or January. If this decis ion is against the government, tlieu the aid of congress will lie invoked. Put till the court has acted nothing can !e done. The speaker then went to his argument on the political issues He claimed that all citizens are honest in their convictions, hut that they may not think alike now nor yet in November. Put he came not to And fault with the action of any voter. A strong appeal was made to the republican voter to continue to up hold the great republican party that had disposed of the question of slavery, the great blot on civilization that had given the poor man a home stead law, that had formulated a national tariff law, that had la-en the only friend silver had ever hail. Si mie of t hese t lii ngs were accom pi ish ed facts while others were living issues to be yet enacted into law. He called attention to the fact that the republican pnrtv had paid 1 1, 500,000,-; Olio of the public debt leaving but $585,000,000 ii pa nl when the present administration came into power. We cannot afford to ahandan the republican parly. There are ques tions of much greater moment than the independent free coinage of sil ver at a ratio ot Hi to 1. He contras ted Harrisons administration with the present when republican ideas had been put aside Harrison had paid 1258,000,000 on the national debt. AH was proserity, every factory and furnace was melting hot. F.very prosperity stalked the land over, but the change came, llepun- licans retired Irom omee; I.VjJO com mercial failures resulted, with liabili ties written at 1100,000,000. 3,000, 000 operatives were thrown out of employment yet there had been no change or tinancial policy to bring about this calamity. The same gold standard was in e.xistance in 1891 and ls'.)2 during the prosperous- years ami had tioen since 1853, as now. Hence he concluded that the depression of to-day is due to other causes than the niaiiiliiinaiu-e of the gold standard. Mr. Mitchell thinks the question of the day is nut one of independent free silver coinage, but one of foster ing the industries. He said all his official acts in the senate had becu along that line. He had never ad vocated independent free coinige, but had worked and voted for pro tection to American farmer and American labor. He was a bi-niet:i-li-t when the consent of the commer cial nations could be secured for hi melatism and not before. He had voted for the Pingley tariff bill lie cause he though revenue sufficient for the demand of the government was of more importani'e than the free coinage of silver. This government cannot have two kinds of money, a cheap and a dear kind. And inde pendent free coinage would give us those varieties. He nhowed that there can he no international agree ment wilh the democratic party in ower. Himetalism and free trade are Incompatible. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Ways and Means Com mittee that framed the Wilson bill and had charge of the agricultural schedule, hence his unfriendliness to the farmer is established. Mr. Mitchell found cue plank in the democratic platform that is more vicious than all the rent. The ques tion is .efore the eople again. It is states rights against national sup remacy. If there is no power to ex ecute L'. S. laws In a state unle-s the governor of the Mate consents thpn we have no nation, if we no nation then then; is no ne1 of fiiian. ial Ick'i-'lrttion or any other. I have used many preparations for restoring hair to natural color, but never had satisfactory results till I used Zulu Vulier: it will restore any hair or beard to Its natural color in three weeks. If it does not they return your money, so you take no risks. People who have never tried it can get a sample package which contains enough to restore anyout'n hair to natural color, by sending 21 two-cent stamps to pay potdage etc. to Wilson Jt Co., New Ccneord, Ohio. The regular price Is 2.50 kt package. If it does not restore your hair to natural color, or make any color of hair darker in three weeks they will return your stamps. This proposition Is so fair that thousands are using it. It in harmless but never fails. Why can't big money be made selling Zulu Vulier from house to house, A Wife Equal to a liolil Mine. Will some of your readers give me a good recipe for making cold starch? I am selling aclf-heating flat irons and iron a little at every house and have to use some corn starch every iilaee and want ti know how to make good cold starch. My husband was in debt and I being anxious to help him thought 1 would aell self heating flat irons, and I am doing splendidly. A cent's worth of fuel will heat the ijon for (3) three hours, so you have a erfectly even heat. You can iron in half the time and no danger of schorehing the clothes as with the old iron, and you can get the most beautiful gloss. I sell at nearly every house, as the Iron saves so much fuel everybody wants one. I make 1.50 on each Iron and have not sold less than ten any day I worked. My brother is doing well and I think anyone can make money anywhere selling irons. J. F. CASEY & CO., St. Louis, Mo., will start anyone in the buisness, as they did me if you will address them.
