A few weeks ago, mention was made of the sale of nomj large horses that were to go to the logging carol of Washington and the Columbia river. Since then it has Us-n learned that the logging engines, that a few months ago were to revolutionize the logging industry, Is not proving as suece.ful aa was exsKUd, and it Is now found that the bone and tuucle of our large draft horsea is to be pre ferred. The logging locomotives re quire iron road- and expensive plants which cannot be utilized in the woods, but only the mile or more of irunn roan next the mill or boom. Horses or oxen must be used to gather In the logs to the pioneer sta tion. This demand will furnish a remunerative market for our horses, provided mey are large enough. Seventeen hundred to twenty hun dred pounds are the one sought. Little ones are still of no account, and our farmers ought to breed with reference to this new demand. I-ast year, Clerk Oootlin did not get his supervisors' lists ready for delivery to the several supervisors till the middle of April, but this year, by working over time, they are now ready. I Steeples' children was'with him in the woods, when it found a heavy, 7 foot saw for a plaything. The saw was pulled off Its support and one of the cruel teeth plunged into the child's foot, severing a vein. Schulmerlch Bros, have accepted the agency of the Columbia Machinery Company, which succeeds the I). M. Oslxirn Company, and will handle all the machines sold by the ostiums, together with other classes. Messrs. Schulmerich will put up an implement shed on Second street, be tween the brick store of Schulmerlch A Son, and the harness shot Jerome Palmatier, of Keedville, re ports that his spring seeding of clover is all to do over again. He had sown 100 pounds of seed, which wasjust peeping through the ground when the cold night of March 1st heaved up the field and pulled every sis-ar out by the roots.
