REVISED MAP OF STATE ROAD SYSTEM
The Railway Executives’ Ad
visory Committee, representing
the principal railroads of t h e
country, is spending money on
advertisements asking the people
to “ Keep railroads out of politics
and politics out of the railroads.” 1
Good Lord, gentlemen, that’s
just what the people have been
trying to do for the past thirty
years, but they have never been
able to get the railroad managers
to keep their noses out of politics 1
A t every session of congress and 1
of the state legislature- the rail-;
roads have hud their paid lobby-!
ists, begging for special privileges j
and resisting any repeal of th e !
privileges already granted. Why
this change of heart at this late i
d a y ? Is it because the present
national administration has shown !
that it considers the railroads and !
other big corporations big enough 1
to be weaned ? “ When the devil
was sick, a saint was he,” etc.

One of these misguided gentlemen
remarked, when asked to join,
that the organization was a

Should the bonding act carry, there will be funds sufficient, it is asserted,
to place all the highways designated on this map in condition for traffic, includ
ing about 600 miles o f paved highway. Should the bond issue fail, the Commis-
sion will do the best it can to cover as much o f the designated mileage as pos-
sible. The funds for eonstruction would be in small annual amounts for the five
years, and probably would be required, the Commission has indicated, to put the
