was brought about by a confession o f a
youthful deputy in the clerk ’s office.
Jew L o y S in g is specially accused o f

an unknown Chinese fo r that o f G ee

habeas corpus proceeding which had
resulted in the admission o f K e e to
this country.
T a y lo r declares that
substitution has been practiced upon
no less than 300 habeas corpus court
records in the d is tric t c lerk ’ s office
here. In some cases more than one
substitution was made in the same
record until it has become practically
im possible to trace the original. |fc ’ .— 1
The Chinese who posed as G ee Jung
K e e w ith the la tt e r ’ s habeas corpus

o f three Chinese as his sons and was
preparing to have three more pauedo
sons and one daughter perm itted to
land when the plot was uncovered. H e
then disappeared, but Jew , who is said
to have em ployed him, was caught.
Inspector T a y io r estim ated th at the

from the use o f the substituted papers,
as the pretended G e e ’ s adopted fa m ily
would have paid that sum to land here,

admission was denied to the three sons
