STATE ACTIVITY NOTES.
T he advent of the Oregon
Electric com pany’s electric line
into this city cannot help but
be a boom to us and surround
ing community. Forest Grove
has waited long but not alto
gether patiently for this oppor
tunity of assiting a company
that actually meant to build a
road and now that the time has
come the efforts of the entire
community are necessary to
bring the matter to a hasty and
satisfactory end. T he company
is limiting the time of procuring
the right-of-way and other nec
essary ground, hence the quick

If ever the time was oppor
tune for Forest Grove to get an
elfeufc railroad it is now. So far
the committee who has the ac
quisition of the right of way in
charge has met with no serious
obstacles, but it has met with
opposition in quarters where it
least expected. One or two deals
have been consumated since the
proposition was put by the Elec
tric company, that smell of graft.
One would naturally suppose
that there is public spirit and
patriotism enough in a commu
nity of this size among our bus
iness people to eliminate any
obstacle that might, under ordi
nary circumstances, arise, least
wise perpetrate or consummate a
deal that would require extra
