T h e $1500 app rop riated by th e cou n ty was used to pay for som e fruits and grain s th a t were b o u g h t; for sa la ry of m an who gath ered part of the e x h ib it and o f th e m en who were in c h a rg e of booth; e xp ressa ge on products sent in, and for exp en ses ot som e few of the wom en who w ent down from tim e to tim e to h elp a rra n g e th e e x h ib it. T he ladies who served as hoslesses did so w ithout p ay; not even re ceiv in g railroad fare from th e cou nty. It is true, doubtleas, th a t th e women to w hom th is w ork was intrusted m ade m istakes, but it is a lso true th at th ro u gh th eir e a r n e st, self-sacrificin g spirit the W ash in gto n c o u n ty e x h ib it was m ade on e of the m ost a ttra c tiv e in th e A g ricu ltu ra l b u ild in g , and w ithout whom, perhaps, th ere would h ave been no e x h ib it at a ll.
