The D entist A number of young enthusiasts, ac companied by Profs. Bates and Smith, took a bicycle ride to Hillsboro last Friday evening. The evening was ideal, the wheeling good, and the lit tle party report as having had an ex cellent time. Mr. Shephard of 0 . A. C., was up here over Sunday in the interests of the Y. M. C. A. Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, an enthusiastic “ Gearheart Rally” was held, and many of the boys signified their intention of going to the Gearheart conference, which is to be held at Geatheart, commencing May 28, and lasting nine days. The Y. W. C. A. girls held a May Morning Breakfast last Saturday morn ing, and realized considerable money from it. They want the money to send delegates to the Capitola con ference, which convenes at Pacific Grove, California, the last of this month. The girls fed about ISO people tha: morning. The long heralded “ Training Table” for the track athletics, has at last materialized, and the members of the team are enjoying the delicacies of Laughlin’s new hotel. The “ Table” will run for about a month. At present there are 12 boys eating there. The purpose of such arrange ment is not so much because of better food, but to get the boys together, and to create a spirit of enthusiasm among the boys. Main Street, Forest Grove, Oregon. President Ferrin left last Thursday for an extended trip east, in the inter ests of Pacific University. Before leaving President Ferrin spoke very encourageingly of the prospects for Pacific University in the future, and said that they expected to erect some new buildings in the near future, and otherwise further equip the school. Promptly at 6 o’clock, mornings, the whistle of an 80 horse power boiler will awaken the logging snoozer around Banks. Our hustling saw-mill man, Joe Mahoney, is enlarging his plant by putting in new power. His timber will be put on the yard by a' 40 horse-power donkey engine under the auspices of Z. N. Seelye & Son. Next Saturday Pacific holds her first athletic meet of the year, with Colum bia University. The contest will be held on Multnomah field, Portland. The team, accompanied by the coach and manager, and a large crowd of rooters, will leave on the early train Saturday morning. Thomas & James. The Grange of Banks will give a dance on the evening of the 14th, in Dooley’s hall. Music will be furn ished by the S. A. Walker orchestra, and a box supper will add to the merry making. Mr. Edward Banks, of the Oregon, spent a few days last week with his folk here. Mrs. A. W. Purdin is out from Port land visiting her many friends and relatives here. Grandpa Carstens who has been very low with typhoid pneumonia is im proving. The roads have been full of potato wagons of late, the farmers taking advantage of the prevailing high prices. When building, don’t forget that you can get anything you w*nt at S. G. Hughes’.
