Galloway, well known in and about Forest Grove, returned Friday from Cuba and a trip through the east ern states. Mr. Galloway has property « in the Colony of La Gloria, Cuba and was there investigating the conditions | of the country with the expectations of locating there. He found a healthful and pleasant climate, the soil extremely productive, and the resources abundant— with many desirable advantages for a country practically undeveloped. But the ex isting conditions— the mixed races in the settlements, the lack of educa tional advantages are such that it is not a desirable place for the home- seeker with a family. There is a great immigration from the United States to the island and within a few years will be densely populated by a progressive and educated people. Mr. Gailoway is a splendid observer and while there learned many of the peculiar traits and characteristics of these Cubans. Also much about the facilities which are in deed interesting, but he believes that Oregon is yet in the lead for a home and will remain here.
