THE CLACKAMAS COUNTY NEWS, PACE 8 Estacada, Oregon, Friday, Jan. 16, 1959 The Oregon Democrat said the report shows that in the Pacific Northwest over 1 billion board Ft. of planned timber sales have been held up due to lack of rights of way and access roads. In addi tion he said the reoprt points out that the Forest Service does not have a sufficient amount of timb er in preparatinn for sale or under contract. Neuberger said the staff study explains that while a large part of this problem stems from inadequate budget requests by the administration, there is al so a need or an improved timber marketing set-up by the Forest Service. The Oregon Senator said the study revealed that in the Pacific Northwest 70 percent of the N a tional Forest Tim ber under con tract was held by 52 firms, or about 16 percent of those firms holding Forest Service contracts. The report also showed that the amount of tim ber cut by the in dustry has remained almost con stant over the last fe w years while the Forest Service has sold more tim ber than the industry cut The Oregon Senator said that he plans to confer with Senator James E. Murray, chairman o f the State Interior and Insular Affairs Committee, and other Western Senators when he returns to Washington. C A R L II.E COMPLETES HIS R E C R U IT T R A IN IN G . Larry G.
