PAGE SIX - O R I E N T A L M Y S T E R Y FILM A T THE LIB ER TY TH E A TR E “ Streets of Shanghai” a story which dramatically portrays an ex- t itinK incident in the mysterious city i.f Shanghai involving a pretty Amer ican girl and a marine is the feature ¡it the Liberty theatre, Estacada, on Thursday and Friday. The story runs in an unbroken continuity and sustains the interest throughout. The story tells of the meeting of an American Mission teacher with the handsome marine who is station ed at the United States consulate in the Chinese city. Frantic at the thought that one o f her pupils has l een kidnapped by a nefarious hand t he traces the girl to a room in a c ertain quarter o f the city, and there she is aided by several marines who learn her story and aid her in rescu ing her charge. The handsome young marine is immediately smitten by the charms o f the little lady, and the next few weeks sees him paying her ardent court. But in the work of rescue the school teacher has aroused the enmity o f a powerful Chinese mandarin whose son is also in love with the mission teacher. He has his henchman surround the mission to kill the white girl, but the timely ar rival o f a force of marines saves the lives o f the defenders and cements more strongly the bonds of the couple. Pauline Starke plays the featured role in the production and she is ably assisted by Kenneth Harlan, Mar garet Livingston, Eddie Gribbon, Jos eph Kobards, Mathilde Content, Sojin and Anna May Wong. The story is by John Francis Natteford, and di rected by Louis J. Gasnier. L. Trullinger and Mildred returned Sunday after a week spent visiting relatives- in Med ford. Enroute the stoped to visit Corinne, who is a student at the Uni versity o f Oregon. Miss Maud Madden of Springwater spent the week end at the A. C. Cogs well home. Ed Johnson returned home last week from M offltt Hot Springs where he was taking treatments for rheumatism. The next day it was necessary for him to return to the springs, as his ailment became worse. Theran Smith o f Portland was a Sunday visitor here. Mrs. Ida Clute of Portland visited on Sunday with Miss Fern Ciute. Mr. and Mrs. Burnham and daugh ter of Portland spent Sunday at the Wm. Hyde home. On Friday evening, December 7, the Ladies Aid will hold a sale and supper at the Eagle Creek Grange hall. Cafeteria supper will be served from 6:30 to 7:30. Following this a program will be given for which an admission fee o f 10 cents will be charged. One o f the features o f the program will be Grandpa Bulger of Portland, provided for by the Sperry Flour company. The ladies will also have an apron, package and candy booth. William Ford o f Los Angeles is a guest at the Connor home. The Oregonian delivery car was driven o ff the bridge and into the ditch in the early hours Tuesday and the driver had to rout out Emery Ford to towe the car into the Eagle Creek garage for repairs before con tinuing the paper route. Mrs. Clingingsmith visited her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hunt in Gresham, and met their new son. Mrs. Emery Ford and son Charles returned this week from a visit with her mother at Randle, Wash., and brought back her son, Bennie, who has been spending several weeks with his grand parents. Chester Thayer and Miss Elbertha Krause are expected as Thanksgiv ing guests o f Mr. and Mrs. Emery Ford. The Eagle Creek Trading company has been shipping a large amount of poultry to Portland markets the past week and is handling a large quantity o f apples. It is hoped that every member of the con gregation will make a special effort to attend this annual meeting for the discussion o f the business policy of the church for the coming year. The Bible school lesson for Sun day morning is “ Paul Before His Judges.” Everybody welcome. Fol lowing the Bible school at 11 o ’clock communion and praise service will be held with a brief gospel message by the pastor.
