Such an attack came along ju st about p ri m ary election tim e and the people of the state showed Inferiority even beyond the complex stage, bu* now they realize it fully and intend to correct any impressions alonp this line such as you seem to hold. W hen a people has received a kick in the most used section of th eir trousers from th eir national governm ent every tim e they let ou a chirp as to th eir needs, and ther when many of th e ir newspaper!- and prom inent citizens stand and brag on the bunch th a t did the kick ing, it n aturally makes a people fee! a little inferior. They fe lt inferior at first, but now they are getting mad ju st like a bunch of hornets. They resent this kicking business. They refuse to stand fo r it and th a t is why, Mr Steiw er, they will vote to return you back to Pendleton w here you cun give closer attention to your “ large and thriving law practice.1 The people of Oregon are so made th a t they are going to send a real honest-to-goodness go-getter to W ashington th a t will not kow tow to th a t butich and th a t will raise more hcTUon a half acre that old Belzebub him self when thej s ta r t kicking Oregon around again They don’t w ant any “ adm inis tratio n su p p o rter” representing this state. They w ant an Oregon sup p o rte r fo r a change. This “ in feriority com plex” thing has been throw n in the ash can and you will realize it fully the first week in November. I t ’s a go-after them complex th a t now dominater and it is taking shape in the forn; of one, B ert E. H aney, who has never failed Oregon when called tc lead her fights. They don’t care if H aney is n dem ocrat. It appears ■ at the yellow ticket which origi- ated with the F ed erated P atriotic jcieties, was la te r im itated by the K. IC’s Good G overnm ent Lea- ue with G rand Dragon G iffo rd ’s gnoture uttached, to g eth er with ;,e seal of the league. Its purpose )se apparently was to advise the ortland voters, much the same as ie Catholics advise th eir adherents, hich candidates fo r office were .vorable to th eir creed. The yel- .w tick et th erefo re became anathe- a am ong the Catholic voters, lortly before the last prim ary a .•How tick et appeared and was eely distributed in Catholic corn- unities and homes. This ticket .ntained am ong others the name f Senator Stanfield, and natural- / created a prejudice against him nong the Catholic voters and ma- • rially aided in d efeatin g him for •nomination. Charges were hurl- I in the direction of the Steiw er mpnign headquarters. An lnves- gation was conducted by the dis- . ict a tto rn e y ’s office and the goat as finally forth coming in the per- on of F red W. We have ur suspicions. Suspicion is great- ;t when others try hardest to put t to sleep. It is safe to say th a t none of hose arresteed in connection with he yellow ticket will be brought o trial before election; and a fte r lection no one will need this cam- eiign m atrial, if past perform ances ire any barom eter. And this is politics. Place to Put Your Money A Safe CLACKAMAS NEW S, THURSDAY, OCTOBER MY PLLATFORM “ I believe the economic condition o f the farm er will never be sat isfactorily improvbed as long as he is compelled to sell in an open m ar ket and buy everything in a p ro tec ted m arket. I th erefo re favor a re ad ju stm en t of tr a iff rates. “ Labor is not a commodity, but human, and should have the right to organize fo r its own protection and th a t of child life, and to pre vent debilitating em ploym ent of women. “ The nation should conserve its n atu ral resources and retain title to ts w ater power. I ' The Roosevelt highway should be ; ncouraged by the federal govern m ent for ecenomic and defense pur- . poses. “ Railroad rates should be based upon actual investm ent and cost of operation; good roads are indispen- able and should be fu rth e r extened by federal aid, and there should be an Am erican owned, built and m anned m erchant m arine, “ I favor a grad uated income tax, and Buch ta x reductions th a t the f a r m er and laborer can obtain their homes and standard of living. Am opposed to the so-called Dennis res- j elution. “ There should be strict enforce m ent of ail laws, including the Vol stead Act, and the enforcem ent pf •he la tte r taken o ut of politics. " I am in favor of the D irect P ri mary. “I stand fo r a sq u art deal fo r all ex-service men. >‘l fjavor all necessary riv er and harbor improvej*en£s, and irrigation and reclam ation projects fo r Oregon “ I favor a restrictive im m igration 7, 1926 policy, and raising of the standard fci- admission. Am opposed to em ploym ent of Jap an ese labor. “ O ur governm ent should extend rs gen: rosily to the A m erican ta x payer ra th e r than to fore gn nations th a t try to ev-.de paym ent of honest w ar dcbt3, which should be paid. “ Had I bean" in Congress at the tim e the O i. gon-C alifornia Land G ran t T ax Com m ittee would have had no trouble in g ettin g me to in troduce th eir bill in the House of Representatives. “ Congressional representatives of New England m an u factu rers should be elected in New England and not in O regon.” P ersonal Sketch Newton \V. He will count his money fo r w heat, corn or ivestock sold, and it is ju s t as rea sonable, SHys C. A. Briggs of the United S tates D epartm ent of A gri culture, fo r him to know how the scale is used In geting the weight. In weighing a thousand pound steer it is not d ifficult at tim es to weigh with a high balance so th at the w eight shown is ten pounds less than the correct am ount, and usu ally thi will go unchallenged. At a price of 10 cents a pound the ten pounds means $1, which is more ban am p'e to cover the total of the yardage and feed charges fo r the anim al a t stockyard. This is about 1 per cent of the price of the an i mal b u t it may rep resen t 10 per cent of the net profit. This m atter of weighing with a high balance has been observed when the weighing was not being done rapidly. In many cases, how ever, the weighing is done too ••apidly. The onlooker does not know w hether the weighing was done properly or w hether the weight ecorded is short ten or m ore pounds >u the d ra ft. In many cases the beam ju s t sta rts to move when tho igher quickly arrests it by throw ing the latch at the end of the beam and the beam has not clearly ly indicated the balance. O ften the farm er sees and in his own mind questions the accuracy of the w eight b u t fo r lack of confidence and w ant f knowledge he does not find him self in a position to raise any ques tions. This qnick weighing is wrong. The weighing should be done so^ th a t th e character of the balance is ap p a ren t to any observer. The proper way to weigh is to balance the beam so th a t it has n either high or low balance; th a t is, so th a t it swings evenly between the op and the bottom of the loop. In /pe registering beams the w eight indication changes in steps accord ing to the type figures. In such* oa-es the reading should be used which will bring the beam n ea rest to an even balance. Less than three per cent of the farms of Ontario, Canada all from regular utilities. In Oregon the regulated utilities are extending their lines as fast as business conditions reasonably permit... Grad ually but steadily that service to rural communities is increasing. « % Ontario, served in part by the provincial government, serves the centers of population. Government operation means political operation. Political operation is after the votes. This Company has invested over $77,000,000 in this territory. It has 90,000 light and power customers and serves a population of over 400,000. The Housewives’ Council “Water and Power” Amendment gives an inexperienced board absolute authority to spend fifty-three million dollars from the sale of state bonds, for which all property in the state would be mortgaged. . The farmer-taxpayer helps to guarantee the debt but the Ontario experiment shows who gets the service. Its business is growing steadily every day. We offer you an opportunity to invest your money in this successful and well-managed business at 6.67 percent interest. Let us tell you more about it.
