The high school auditorium was well filled with an expectant au dience when the curtain rose, showing the interest which had been aroused by previous adver tising. The receipts totalled the gratifying sum of $96.30. We are creditably informed that these dusky nightingales are not professionals, but gifted ama teurs who devote their services to promoting uplifting agencies in general and the M. E. church in particular. In every day life they occupy prominent positions in financial, mercantile, minister ial, horticultural and railroad cir cles. The program opened with a skit entitled “The Embalming of Ebenezer,” which convulsed the audience. The remainder of the numbers included favorite South ern plantation melodies as “ Dix ie,” "Tennessee,” “Swanee Riv er,” and the like. Then there were numerous jokes and take offs, both ancient and modern, a flight of oratory on “ The Cow ard,” which hit the stars, and a profound discourse on “ Educa tion,” which plumbed the depths and should be repeated for the benefit of the school board and faculty. The only criticism we would make, is that there should have been a clog dance, such as the gentlemen who took the roles of the embalmed and embalmer in the opening piece, are well able to execute. This would have capped the climax. •" JACK N O R T O N ’S BARBER SHOP Broadway opposite ■'Favorite'’ Theatrs .j.
