Page Two School Election N e w s ’ Ads are Read The high school auditorium was almost filled to its capacity last Monday evening, for the school board election. Evidently much interest was aroused this year. Dr. Morse, as chairman of the board, called the meeting to order, and Mrs. Susie Sarver, the clerk, read the financial re port, which showed the gra tify ing fact that there was on hand the sum of $2,000. As I)r. Morse’s term#was expiring, the next proceeding was tlu? election of his successor. Mr. Whitbeck nominated the doctor to succeed himself, and VV. H. Holder nom inated Mrs. Mae Reed. No oth er nominees being presented, the ballot was taken, with nearly 200 votes cast. l)r. Morse re ceived 122 of these, and was de clared elected. He expressed his thanks for the endorsement this vote indicated. As VV. ft. Wood- worth had resigned, his place had to be tilled. E. VV. Martlett nominated i ieorge Woatherby and (). E. Smith nominated Dr. R. (1. McC all. The ballot being taken, showed a vote 132 for Mr. Woatherby, and he was declared elected. Mrs. Susie Sarver hav ing declined re-election as clerk, Mrs. Myrtle Kelli Is was nomi nated, and as there was no other nominee put forth, the clerk, on motion, was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for her. The meeting then adjourned, and the school board held its usual ses sion for (he settlement of bills and other business. As proof that the Ads in the N ews are read, J. W. Dillinger, of Garfield, published one week before last, about “ strawberries for sale.” It ran one week and then he asked that it be discon tinued. We forgot to take it out so it ran again last week. Sat urday he called the office up to be sure and take it out, for he was being overwhelmed with parties wanting strawberries. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Finch and family left Saturday afternoon for Portland, where they will stop a few days and then proceed in a leisurely fashion to Califor nia. They go in their car. 'Their California address will be Atas cadero, near San Luis Obispo. This is the colony started and pro moted by Lewis who a few years ago founded the University City near St. Louis Mo. He establish ed a large printing plant and Was planning other large schemes when the government stopped his mail privileges. He fought the government and won his suit, showing that he had been a vic tim ot a conspiracy. Rut he lost all he had. His present venture is an ambitious one and reads very attractively. Mr. Finch does not intend to locate there, however. The N e w s wishes them a very pleasant trip, and hopes to see them back some- Homer Schock of New York City, visited his aunt, Mrs. Mar garet Schock two days last week.
