Page Two From the County Judge “ As to the Court’ s treatment of your part of the County. A t the present time there are four market roads in Clackamas Coun ty. These market roads received appronriations this year some where in the neighborhood of $100,(MX).00. Your country re ceives tw oof these market roads, one from Eagle Creek and one from Estacada, which, in my judgment, puts your neighbor hood in a class by itself in re spect to favorable treatment by the County Court. These mar ket roads are made at the ex pense of the general taxpayers of the State and of the County and they are thus of extraordi nary benefit to the localities where located.” “ In other respects, your coun try has, and will receive, exact ly the same treatment as has been, and will be accorded to each and every part of Clacka mas County, friends and foes alike.” I.O . Concerning Blue Law s To the E ditor : I make no war on the man who believes Sunday should be kept as a sabbath, but I certainly do object to his trying to compel any one else to observe the day. When the Lord’s Day Alliance or any other association announce that they desire to get legislation that in effect will invade the rights of the individual con science, and when they give out that they desire a return to the Puritan Sunday, we have a right to investigate the workings of that sort of laws when they are enforced. The Puritans did not know or practice religious liberty. All t h e y ’ wa tied or understood was t> have liberty to d » as th >y t .emselves thought right, and they laid heavy hands on tho: e d s eoting from them. Without entering into the quesiio .1 which day of the week is the Christian sabbath, it can bo sa d with the most positive assurance that if it is Christian, it should bo observe 1 as Christ would have observed it. and the attitud * of Christ’s fol awers to vards those Who do not observe it should be in harmony with the way Christ talked and a ’ted to ward those who did not follow' or believe on him when \ e was Mere on earth as our example.
