Thursday, November 18, 1920 EASTERN CLACKAMAS NEWS Mrs. J. Krieger visited friends in Gresham Saturday. C. P. Rose makes good use of his store window for attractive displays of his goods. The editor officiated Sunday morning at the St. Philip’s mis sion (Episcopal) for colored peo ple. Reed and Shibley are installing a lighting and water system in the home of J. C. Young of Gar field. We are glad to learn that Geo. B. Weatherbv is able to be out once more after his long siege of illness. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Wooster, accompanied by their daughter Helen, drove in their car to Port land, Saturdav. W. R. Jones is stopping a few days on his place on the Garfield road, which h>« father, J. L. Jones, takes care of. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Morgan left Monday morning in theircar for a visit to Roseburg and other southern Oregon points. Portland people are- becoming somewhat exercised o v e r the number of burglaries which have happened lately in that burg. In spite of the Portland stores advertising a return to normalcy, the goods in their windows do not show any marked reduction in price. “ A new broom sweeps clean,” and under the new city adminis tration the streets of the town have been scarified, gravelled, steam rolled and levelled. LOCAL BREVITIES AND NEWS H EMS Fred Marasco was a Portland visitor Saturday. Miss Ida Wagner spent the week-end in Portland. Mrs. C. F. Howe and daughter, went to Portland Saturday. Mrs. Dave Eshelman and little son spent Saturday in Portland. Miss Gladys Kandel took the morning train for Portland, Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. A. Eimon, of Colton, were Estacada visitors on Saturday. Mrs. M. H. Evans was here from Portland, Saturday, a few hours on business. Mrs. N. Rowe of Portland, vis ited her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kerkes, for the week end. Miss Wise, connected with the Hauser restaurant, was ok a visit to friends in Portland for a few days this week. It is time now to sound the slo gan “ Do your Christmas shop ping eariy.” Also give the home merchant the preference. Mrs. W. W. Christensen, of Springwater spent a few days in Portland, and attended White Shrine and Eastern Star meet ings on Friday and Saturday, and visiting friends, returning Tuesday. Page Five One of the domestic problems which is confronting the good housewife just now, is whether to have a turkey or not for the Thanksgiving dinner. Oysters are two dollars a quart so it may be safe to predict that turkies will be stuffed with something less expensive, if not so appetis ing. r G.
