Thursday, September 9, 1 920 Glasses fitted.—Dr. Inglis. Willaim Stubbe was in town this week. Miss Ruth Saling was home for the week-end and Labor Day. Mr. and Mrs. H. C'. Stephens have moved into the rooms over the bank. Miss Esther Anderson was vis iting in Estacada the fore part of this week. Reed & Shibley are clearing their lot south of their shop with view of building a garage. Misses Nova Smith and Lucy Krigbaum returned from visiting with friends last Saturday. Guy Graham is visiting here, having joined his wife at her grandmother’s Mrs. 0. Shock. Joe Pesznecker is home again and has taken the contract of hauling the logs for his father’s lath mill. Mrs. Myrtle Belfis a n d son Albert returned last Friday from their summer’s sojourn in the mountains. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Botkin of Garfield, went to Gresham Mon day to visit Mrs. Botkin’s father, Mr. Charles Wanzer. If reading matter is somewhat short this week, our readers must please excuse us, as Labor Day put us behind in our work. The cars Saturdav and Sunday were filled with passengers bent on fi§hing and camping trips for the week-en<l and Labor Day. Mr. and Mrs. William Dale spent the week-end at Dufur in Eastern Oregon, as guest of a married daughter, Mrs. F. M. Gill. Mrs. L. Day, an old schoolmate of Mrs. C. A. Jacques of Garfield, visited her last week returning to her home in St. Johns Satur day afternoon. EASTERN CLACKAMAS NEWS Mr. C. L. Allen has been quit» sick of late, and is under the care of Dr. Morse. He was some better Tuesday. It was very quiet in town Mon day, although a few of the stores were open, most people seem to have gone off to celebrate the day. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Moore went Tuesday afternoon to Portland on a visit to the parents of the latter, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rich mond. Miss Dora Currin who has been employed as a stenographer in a Salem law office, is now at home preparatory to attending the O. A. C. this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richard son are at the Harkenrider home for a few days, having driven down from their home at Stan field in Eastern Oregon. The N e w s acknowledges with thanks a copy of the June quar terly issued by the Oregon His torical Society. As usual it is replete with interest. . Mr. and Mrs. 0. L. Straughan, who have b e e n visiting the parents of the former, Mr. and Mrs. E. Hannah, left for Pendle ton Saturday afternoon, George Harkenrider who has been in Eastern Oregon, during the summer, returned home last week to attend the wedding of his sister Miss Josie to Harold O’Neill. J) * A large flock of wild geese flew over town Sunday morning, honk ing as they went. They were headed south and resembled air planes. Is this a sign of an early winter? The Women’s Auxiliary unit of the American Legion will meet in the Odd Fellows Hall at 8 p. m., on Monday, September 13th. All who are eligible are requested to attend. The interior of the bank was papered and tinted Labor Day, which greatly improves fits ap pearance, Pointer and Hughes doing the work. The exteiior of the building will soon also be re painted. Mrs. J. S. Guttridge and chil dren of Prairie City in Eastern Oregon, who have been visiting their sister-in-law and aunt, Mrs. D. B. Herring, have returned to their home. They made the trip in their car. Miss Harriet McLennan,daugh ter of the Rev. J. D. and Mrs. McLennan of Springwater, went to Portland Monday, where she will teach school.
