T hursday, July 29, 1920 LOCAL BREVITIES AND NEWS H LMS Mrs. C. F., Miss Lelia and Ted Howe, spent Friday in Portland. Mrs. Roy Wilcox had one of her eyes operated on last Thurs day in Portland. Mrs. Ray E s h l e m a n from Grant’s Pass, is here visiting friends and relatives. W. H. H. Wade has returned from his sojourn at Gladstone park where he attended the Cha- tauqua. Bob McClintock was a passen ger to Oregon City Monday a. m. on business connected with his pension. Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Benson of Clinton, Iowa, are spending a week with their nephew, R. C. Deming. Thanks to o u r friend, Phil Marquam, the poultry expert, we had fried spring chicken for our Sunday dinner. Large luscious logan berries make the air fragrant and the mouth water when passing John Marchbank’s ranch. Don’t forget the Artisans’ dance Saturday night in the park pavilion. Good music, good floor and a good time assured. Loran Ellis, who is with the firm Lawrence an! Holford, arch itects of Portland, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Ellis. W. F. Wheeling of Portland, auditor for the State Industrial Commission, was in town Mon- •day checking up accounts for the commission. Ken Bartlett’s picture was in Sunday’s Oregonian among the western athletes for the Olympic games. He was to sail last Mon day night from Hoboken, N. J. Good lucic to him and a safe re turn bringing his laurels with him. EASTERN CLACKAMAS NEWS Mr. and Mrs. George T. Mc- Casky and son of Portland, were the guests Sunday of Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Wells. The fact that* “ You never miss the water till the well runs dry,” is brought home to us when the water main is shut off. Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Wells en tertained Tuesdav and Wednes day Mrs. G e o r g e Dolph and children of Dallas. Texas. Services a t t h e Methodist church this Sunday evening at 7:30. Rev. Edwin Wright, of the Christian church, conducting the service. Preaching services at both churches S u n d a y morning at eleven o’clock, as usual. During August there will be Union ser vices in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kling, the latter the daughter of W. E. Linn, arriyed from Chicago the first of the week, and are guests in the Kreiger home. A number from Estacada and vicinity including J. K. Ely and family, L. Hale of Currinsville, attended the Chatauqua at Glad stone last Sunday and heard the noted Billy Sunday. E. W. Bartlett and wife took in the Elks' convention at Salem last week Mr. Bartlett was a charter member of the Elks lodge at La Grande where he for merly resided, before coming to Estacada. George Pointer has a striking display in the window of the tel ephone office showing samples of his work in painting, tinting and graining besides sign painting. Those who employ him find that they have made no mistake. The Linn family will hold its reunion Sunday, which has been made an annual affair. As there are numerous members in this vicinity, large attendance is ex pected. No doubt they will have a very enjoyable time in sylvan shades as the affair is to take place out of doors. Edward G. Barger mechanical expert for Neustadter Bros, of Portland, was in town Saturday and called at this office. Mr. Barger is a grandson of Franklin Pierce who homesteaded what afterwards became the site of Estacada. He advertises two lots for sale in this issue. Mrs. Frank Ewing of ChehaMs, Wash., who was visiting friends here, did not leave last Thursday as was reported in the N ews . She was planning to go, but the baby took sick with a bad cold, and then she was taken sick also, and both wore under the doctor’s care. They are stopping at the Lovelace hospital. Page Five A camping party with covered wagon, buggy a n d tent, en camped on the fiat back of the city hall last Tuesday evening. They are traveling through the country in a very comfortable manner, and as the roads are good should find it very pleasant, though not as expeditious as with an auto. PLACE R. R.
