Meads, well known to the public as “Meads, the speed cop,” has filed his petition for the Republican nomination for sheriff. He has been county traffic officer and deputy sheriff for the last three years and re signed last week simultaneously with making the announcement of his candidacy. During the paper mill strike, Meads was placed in charge of the state police, and during the war he was put on duty to check up slackers and deserters. He has been a terror toautomobile thieves and speed nvinhcs. His most recent activities ^ have been in • connection with moonshiners and bootlegging violations. SHUEBEL ET AL ADDRESS MEETING Last Friday night a bunch of politicals headed by Chris Schut- bel drove over from Oregon City to enlighten our citizens on the cause of taxes being so high. Mr. Schuebel has made a study of the problem and thinks he has solved it. The reason for hiv» h taxes is that one third of the val ue of taxable property is escap ing taxation. F. D.
