Page Two SPR1NGWATER ITEMS Mrs. R. S. Coop o f Currinsville is visiting with her daughter Mrs. G. • Guttridge. Mrs. Phillipie o f Lebanon, Ore., spent the past two weeks with her sister Mrs. J. Marshall. Mrs. W. Christenson entertain ed a number o f the ladies at a birthday dinner on Friday noon. Mr. and Mrs. Ecker of Port land visited with Mr. and Mrs. J. Marshall and family the week end. Marion Millard who has been at Camp Lewis in service received his honorable discharge on Wed nesday o f last week and is now at his parental home. C. N. Davis formerly o f Spring- water had the misfortune of be ing run over by a truck in Yakima, Wash., and was serious ly injured. He is slowly recover ing. The Christian Endeavor Society held their monthly business and social meeting at the home o f Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Mogeron Fri day evening. The society invit ed the Intermediate Society to the social. Both societies enjoyed the “ paper party, ” and the re freshments. VIOLA BREEZES The mail carrier on route 2 out from Oregon City passes through Viola to escape getting mired on that road in places. Mrs. Randolph and daughter Norma went to Portland on Mon day with Byron and an auto agent who is selling the Over land. A man from Clackamas Station was here a few days ago looking at the store building, we under stand he is talking o f buying it. We shall welcome him to our burg. G. Kirchem from Logan and Frank Spague and son from Red- land with four or five hound dogs were scouring the timber and canyons near here on Sunday for that lost cougar, but it had left for parts unknown. Dunlop, Pastor, Thursday, March 13, 1919 EASTERN CLACKAMAS NEWS Our mail carrier Mr. Kirk has the worst route in the state for mud holes that are knee deep in places, so he has to walk and push on the wheel to help his horse. He cannot leave Estacada until 9:30 a. m. and gets back there at 7:00 p. m. The early car from Portland is so loaded bringing the daily papers that it is impossible to bring the mail until 8:30 a. m. LOWER EAGLE CREEK Mrs. Will Githens and baby of Canby are visiting at Mr. E. Fos ter’s home. Elmer Anderson has had his discharge from the army and is back on the farm. Robert Devine is now able io be up and around his little house, the first in three weeks. Ben Anderson has purchased the Gobey place, and intends moving his house over on to it. Mrs. W. Gibler and Mrs. Em ma Ritman o f Portland, spent Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Regina Horger. William Hansen o f Bandon, Ore., is calling on old time neigh bors in the vicinity o f Eagle Creek this week. Mr. and Mrs. English arrived Saturday from Oakland, Calif, to make an indefinite stay with their daughter, Mrs. B. F. Cogs well. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mason formerly o f Eagle Creek, but now of Sellwood, were calling on friends in this neighborhood on Sunday. Their son Clifford who enlisted in the quartermaster corps and has been in France for eighteen months, was to sail for the U. S. A. the 1st o f March. Just as Cheap Here as in Portland. We received a grocery price list from Meier, Frank Co. o f Portland, last week and com pared prices with those o f a local merchant. We found very little variation, some articles being a few cents cheaper and others correspondingly higher, while yet others were exactly the same as here. The conclusion we ar rived at was, that including the freight charges, on a general av erage, one could do as well in Es tacada as in Portland. There will be a dance at Cogs wells hall.
