T k 3 rara UPPER EAGLE CREEK Mrs. Naylor visited with Mrs. Katie Douglass Monday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Walter D our lass entertained Mr. and Mrs. C. H. I’addison Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoffmeist- er spent last Thursday evening at the home of R. B. Gibson. H. S. and R. B. Gibson helped Mr. Dhulst to drive his cattle part way to his new home near Gresham last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Preisterand children, Mrs. Viola Douglass and Mrs. R. B. Gibson were the dinner guests o f Mr. and Mrs. Roy. Douglass Monday. Mrs. Viola Douglass received a letter Monday morning from her son Carl, who is at Fort Stevens and has had an attack of the Spanish influenza, stating that he,is well on the road to re covery and is growing a Charlie Chaplin mustache. On hearing the good news that the world war was over an open air celebration was held by the residents o f school district No. mm 50 on Monday evening. A big bonfire was built and the people gathered around or near it, had a social time together, music on the phonograph, coffee and sand wiches were served, patriotic songs were sung, three cheers and then another given for the hoys at the front. Three cheers were given for the victory they helped to win, when all adjourn ed. Word was received late last night o f the death o f Mrs. R. Fanton at Bend, Ore., o f in- flnenza. Mrs. E’anton is the mother o f Mrs. Robt. Snyder o f this city. The body will be shipped here for interment in Zion cemetry. Private services at the grave will probably be held Sunday. We enjoy reading the home paper, as we call Esta cada our home, and our hoy Frank who was a student o f the Esta cada school, hut now on the way to France with the Company C., 11th Replacement Marine Battal- lion, wants us to follow' him up with the home paper. In his last letter from Quincin- to, Virginia, he stated that that Batiallion was badly shot up. on ly 8 Marines left, so they are re placing it. While in California last August ne saw Orrin Coop, just as Orrin was leaving.
