Miss Pearl Hess of Portland is visiting with old time Dover friends. Mrs. Jennie Kitzmiller is suf fering with an attack of tonsili tis. R. C. Spooner and crew have finished hewing ship timbers in Dover and are now getting out timbers on the Wendland place in Firwood. These huge timbers are used for bowsprits on ships, being seventy-six feet long, 47 in ches square, tapering to 11 in ches and weighing twelve thou sand pounds. The Barton Literary Society held its usual bi-monthly meet ing Friday evening, and staged another . “ mock trial” . In this trial. Miss Pauline Flanagan sued Samuel Devine for $33. heart balm for breach-of-promise. The lady won the case and Mr. De- vine was fined $30. worth of chewing gum. Many incriminat ing letters were introduced by the plaintiff’s attorney Harvey Gibson, with Miss Jennie Smith of Eagle Creek testifying as a penmanship expert. Geo. W. Henry Githens of Currinsville recently returned from Browns ville, where he purchased a young thorobred Hereford bull, having sold his former one to eastern stock breeders. Carl Kimmel of Estacada, in a letter to his parents from “ Somewhere in France” , dated March 3rd, tells briefly of his life there, acknowledges receipt of several letters and boxes from his parents and gifts from his school mates.
