E stacad a, Oregon. E. H. S. Contributed Echoes by Estacada High School Teachers’ Institute was held in the E. H. S. auditorium last Sat urday. with teachers from many county schools in attendance. Among the speakers were N. C. Maris of Salem, who spoke on “ Industrial Club Work” ; F. J. Toozeof Oregon City, whose sub ject was “The Thrift of Public Schools” and A. M. Churchill of Portland, who lectured on “ Food Conservation.” Mr. Churchill said in part, “Our people must save wheat, because all of the extra supply was shipped to Eu rope before December last.” Miss Lorene Parker. Clackamas County’s organizer of clubs for home economies, said — “There is about one pound of wool per per son in the U. S. The soldiers must have woolen clothing; there fore, we must make over old woolen garments, in order to save the wool for the boys who are do ing the fighting. ” Dinner was served at the in stitute by the girls of the domes tic science classes and apparent ly was enjoyed by all, being a war-time-dinner, the menu being Tomato Bisque Croutons India Relish Jelly Chicken Tamale Pie Creamed Tomatoes String Beans Rye Bread Butter Fig Pudding with Liberty Sauce The net proceeds from the din ner were $9.80. Several of the E. H. S. boys are trying their luck at cooking and are progressing rapidly un der the careful instructions of Miss Schrepel. Also some of the girls are taking manual training, which should make them more efficient citizens, with Mr. Mc Cormick, the manual training teacher, doing his best to help them. The domestic science girls will be making war-breads next week, those desiring same are asked to notify the girls. Cliff Sarver of Currinsville, who has been dangerously ill in Por. land, was brought to his home Friday, where he s re ported to be getting along as well as could be expected. Mr. and Mrs. R L. Githens who are now living in St. Johns and Mrs. E. Fi zgerald of Port land spent Saturday and Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Githens. City Marshal John Page of Es tacada this week collected within the city limits, licences on fifteen dogs. Hereafter all unlicensed canines will be shot at sun-rise, if John can hit ’em. The local W. C. T. U. will meet Thursday, the 21st at the P. ^ M. Wagner home in Estacada. Ih e afternoon will be spent in mak ing surgical bandages. Already this organization has made and delivered 230 bandages, and needs more old sheets, flour sacks and the like, to contint e the work. Dover Doings Contributed Important road work is now being done by volunteers in the Dover district, in corduroying the road from the Updegrave place in Dover to the Strong place in Firwood. This is not a county road, but is used by the cream- hauler and was at one time used by the rural carrier. Those do ing the work are Charles Upde grave, Birch Roberts and Wm. Burghouse. Bruce Schminky of 0. A. C. spent the week-end with his par ents in Dover. A. J. Morrison spent a few days last week in I ortland and while there was joined by his son . Harry, who is in training at Camp Lewis. Miss Ruth Brown of Bull Run spent the week-end a m o n g friends in Dover. Hugh Guthrie recently pur chased in Portland a span of 12 ).) pound mares for u.-e on his D -ver farm.
