Herman Wallace and Clyde Schock o f Estacada left last Sunday with saddle and pack horses for a few days trip into the mountains. No one seems to know the object o f the trip, but the continued rains guaranteed that the pilgrimage was not one o f pleasure. City Marshal John Page o f Es tacada wishes to herewith issue a warning against anv persons tampering with tin* gratings over the intakes to the city ’s sewers. Many o f these gratings have been removed to allow o f a better flow o f water, with the result that rubbish and leaves have been carried into the sewer causing a stoppage in the pipes. Hen S. Chickens Yield Nuggets Besides laying eggs worth six ty cents a dozen, the hens o f this district are now reported to be yielding golden nuggets from their craws. F. J. Harkenrider o f Estacada held the record up to Saturday, when he claimed a nugget, the size o f a kernel o f wheat, taken from a deceased fowl, but J. Sea- quest o f Springwater eclipsed that record with an account o f the panning o f the contents o f a chicken’s craw, which would make an Alaskan miner envious. But with eggs worth more than nuggets these days, we would not advise a wholesale slaughter o f poultry but if you do kill the goose that lays the golden egg. don’ t forget to pan out the wheat and oat kernels, for they’ re worth money too. Red Cross Benefit The ladies o f the Estacada Red Cross organization are planning a benefit moving-picture per formance to he given at the Fam ily Theatre on Monday evening, January 14th, through the cour tesy o f Mrs. A. E. Sparks, who is donating the theatre. This organization is carrying on a tine work and badly needs another sewing machine and the proceeds o f this entertainment will go towards the purchase o f one.
