EASTERN CLACKAMAS NEWS Devoted to the Interests of Eastern Clackamas V olume 10, N umber 41 LIVE WIRES WELCOMED Over 125 Enjoy F. & M.— Live Wire Dinner-Meeting When the call for dinner came at 7:30 Tuesday evening. a dele gation of sixty-tive hungry mem bers of the Live Wires of Oregon City and an equal number of equ ally hungry members and friends of the Farmers’ and Merchants’ Club of Estacada, stormed the dining room of the Hotel Estaca da. where they remained until about 10:30, enjoying a fine chick en dinner, with the usual after dinner speeches. The attendance was represen tative. including many of the leading men and women from all sections of this community, as well as the leading county seat boosters. The dinner was an excellent one, handled by the ladies of the C. I. C. and served by a bevy of the pretty girls of this communi ty, and in reality was in the na ture of a love-feast, writh no jar ring notes or discord creeping in. The impromptu program which followed, was handled by Messrs. Eby and Givens of the twfo or ganization», with the general tone of the speeches and talks be ing along general boosting lines, and in few cases dealing concrete ly with matte-s of real import ance to this community or to the county at large. Talks along these lines were made by repre sentative men from bo h organi zations, with the local speakers confining their remarks more di rectly to matters of importance. As a courtesy to the ladies, the after dinner smoking was not al lowed; consequently about one hundred Disciples of Dame Nico tine. squirmed, fidgeted and chewed their unlighted cigars and cigarettes for the better part of an hour and then quietly glid ed from the banquet hall, to re turn again, as far as the doorw ay, after absorbing a few good in hales of that dope, which puts the finishing touches on a good meal and leaves the victims con tented and willing to sit around and enjoy speech making. It would have been better in many ways had a formal program been arranged, for much time was consumed in the presentation of reports by the various Live Wire committees, which pertain ed only to their o-ganization and city and which were of little in terest to the local people and to many of the county seaters too. With the representative crowd that wras assembled, there was an opportunity to have accomplished more in the discussion of impor tant matters, than was done, but altogether the affair was an en joyable one and one that prob ably cemented closer relations be tween the county seat and the dissenting portions of the county.
