All Night Hard Times Dance On next Friday evening, April 13th at the Garfield Country Club, will be given an all night Hard Times Dance, to which all are invited. Funeral services were held Tuesday, with interment occur- ing aj the Catholic Cemetery at Oregon City. The deceased was about 46 hears old and a bachelor, and is survived by one sister. i E. W. Bartlett o f Estacada re turned last week after a two weeks trip to Eau Claire, Wis consin, where he was called ow ing to the death o f his aged father. Mr. Bartlett was joined at Eau Claire by his daughter Helen, who is spending the w i n t e r among relatives in Kansas City and who revisited there on the return trip. Mr. Bartlett contemplates an other trip to Wisconsin within a month or two, when Mrs. Bart lett will accompany him and at which time the estate o f his father will be settled. Mr. Beckwith, who came to Es tacada from Sandy a year or so ago, had built up a good business here, but having lately received an offer elsewhere, with a guar anteed income, is forsaking Estacada. Mr. Beckwith has been a valu- able member o f the local business men’s fraternity, has done his full share in all community and civic development and the best wishes o f all are extended to him in his new fields. 0 . The mild epidemic o f scarletina which has been current in this section off and on all winter, last week added two more cases, the victims being Edith, the four year old daughter o f Mr. and Mrs. A. Demoy, and Peggy, the seven year old daughter o f Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Standish o f Estacada. The disease is in a very mild form, but nevertheless very con tagious. In neither case is the child very ill, but the real suffer ers are the mothers, who are forc ed to remain in quarantine for a few weeks, acting as nurses to the youngsters, who are just sick enough to be cross and irritable. Missionary To Address Dorcas Society The next regular meeting of the Garfield Dorcas Society will take place Thursday afternoon, April 19th at the home o f Mrs. Edward Shearer. The guest o f the society will be Miss Maria White, M. D., who is visiting at present at the Shearer home. Miss White will address the meeting, her subject being Missionary Work in India, as the speaker has recently returned from service there. All members and friends are cordially invited to attend. Cant Fill Orders For Fords J. W. Reed o f the Estacada Garage reports now having on hand orders for nine Ford cars and to date is unable to fill any one o f the orders, as owing to tue freight car shortage the supply o f Fords in Portland is limited. He expects within a short time though, to fill all present orders and last week delivered a new lourirg car to ('. C. Miller o f Es tacada, who not only will use the car for pleasure, but will be able to greatly increase his field of work. M. E. Park, who up to ten days ago was a partner in the Estaca da Garage, sold his interests and is contemplating a location at Sandy, with the local garage now owned and operated by Messrs. , Reed and Melton. Honebon Foreclosing Spackman Mortgage In the circuit court in Oregon City, a suit was instituted last Friday to foreclose a $2,000 mortgage against real estate own ed by Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Spack man, formerly of Garfield, but now o f Portland, the former own er John Honebon bringing the suit. The property involved is the old Honebon ranch, one o f the largest in the Upper Garfield sec tion and in which Walter Givens o f Estacada holds an equity. A. G. Ames an Ben S. Patton o f Estacada, left Saturday for an indefinite stay in the mountains, making headquarters at the Oak Grove Ranger Station, where Ames will continue his hunting and trapping, while Patton will make trips from there into the upper country, obtaining data relative to the band o f elk which is wintering in the Big Bottoms country.
