Boys Pig Clubs Organized At a meeting held among the boys of the Estacada Schools last Thursday afternoon, two boys pig clubs were organized, one among the high school students and one among the grade pupils. That afternoon. Prof. Allen of th«- Extension Department of the 0. A. C. gave an interesting talk to the pupils on the formation of Industrial Clubs, with pig clubs among the boys and canning clubs among the girls. For sometime past, P r i n . Guthrie of the schools and Mgr. Frank Ewing of the railway com pany’s agricultural department, have been working to interest the boys and girls in this important work. Arrangements have been made with the Estacada State Bank to finance the club members, by loaning on the boys notes, to cover the initial expense of pur chasing thoroughbred sows. Several boys in TSpringwater and Viola are considering the formation of a similar club and all boys desiring to get into this profitable work are asked to notify Mr. Guthrie or Mr. Ewing. Besides the cash profit from the raising of pigs, prizes and com petition takes place at the 1917 East Clackamas County Fair, with the winners getting a free trip to the county and state fairs. Each club member also receives free from the O. A. C. regular lit erature, containing directions for profitably carrying on the work, such as pasturing, raising of feed and care of the pigs. As a further incentive to the local boys, Mgr. Ewing has prom ised to take all members to the Annual Livestock Show in Port land next month, besides aiding them in getting in touch with leading swine breeders of the state. * This project is an extra fine one, ultimately being of big value to this community, but reflecting the up-to-date methods being adopted by the railway company’s agricultural department and the interest displayed by the Esta cada State Bank.
