D em ented T h ief C aught Considerable excitement was current last Monday in Estacada and Currinsville, when Marshal Ames brought to the local jail a thief who had early that morning been caught by the Kitching boys, while in the act of rifling their house in Currinsville. The prisoner was a sullen, dirty specimen of a foreigner and un able to talk English. When caught he had a supply of grocer ies and two freshly killed chick ens packqd up preparatory to con tinuing his ramblings. Marshal Ames and a few local men noticed a strong resemblance between the prisoner and the much sought for Riskman, for whom the Portland police have been «searching in connection with the recent Jennings murder near Tualatin. The Multnomah County authorities were notified and sent otat a deputy sheriff, who at first was unable to decide whether or not the prisoner was the French jitneur sought, but finally decided he was not. Monday’s and Tuesday’s Port land papers gave considerable space to the Estacada prisoner, declaring him to be Riskman’s double. Little could be learned from the man, altho all languages were used in the interrogating, but J. A. Somers interpreted sufficiently through talking Hungarian to him, to declare the prisoner insane. On Tuesday morning, after a hearing before Justice of the Peace C. W. Devore, Marshal Ames escorted the man to Oregon City, where he will await the ac tion of the Grand Jury or the lunacy board. R eed A p p reciates S upport I wish to thank my many friends, the voters of this part of the county, for the loyal support given to my candidacy in the re cent primaries. Signed J. W. Reed.
