After discovering $1,319. belong
ing to Estacada school district, had
been turned in to District 105,
Sheriff Mass iound another miscue
in Oregon City book-keeping, as
a result of which Estacada district
has $2,619 more.
Prodded by Mrs. Sara Bates,
school clerk, who on a recent
visit learned, to her astonishment,
that the district had only $432 in
the treasury, a total of $3,938 has
t>een found and turned back by the
sheriff.
The first item of $1,319 was a
miscue by Sheriff Mass, who had
turned it over to District 105.
To
Mrs. Bates, he explained, Monday,
that the $2,619 still coming, was an
error ot the county clerk’ s office,
and it happened this way:

The clerk's office wrote down
only a tenth of the taxes which the
O R. L. & P. should have paid.
The railroad company upon being
notified of the miscue, a few days
ago, agreed to pay what is due the
county, but claims a discount of 3
per cent amounting to $328.27. It
says it is not to blame tor clerical
errors and the county accordingly
allows the discount.
The total
amount the railroad should have
paid, less the 3 per cent. is$2,947.37.
Where Estacada district suffers
bv reason of this error is that this

used to take up outstanding war
