SO I Jam ary 7. 1909 The Agricultural College at Cor vallis, Oreg. ,r is sending out two thousand circular letters to farmers iu this state recjtiestiug information as to poultry keeping on the faun, Wc*would advise allfarmcrs receiv- in.; the letter to answer the ques- t ous asked, so far as it is possible l'.v correct data, and where this is liot possible, to answer what iu t icir judgement the answers should lie. The College is trying to help thu farmer ih the poultry business and to this end is seeking ’ inferma- tion from the farmer to "enable them to do it. 1 he prices of poultry pro ducts arc such as to warrant} great er attention being given this branch of farming. The industry from the best information available reached the sum of about $5,000,000. This does not meet home consumption for it requires thousands of dollars to pay for the poultry and eggs that are'shipped into the state, and that means just so many thousand dollars the farmers of this state should have. It is a rather dif ficult matter for'aj.farmer to find the exact cost of this production for the reason that’fowls pick up much grain and seeds that would other wise lie a total loss on the farm, or grow in places where it is not want ed. However it would Mem from this fact alone that the farmer could n.i*e poultry more cheaply than any nne else. So we urge that all the farmers who receive these letters be particular enough and take the time to answer these questions for it will be time,well spent to them.
