Case Against A L Close
Dismissed
The trial of Al. Close 'for viola

the name of the city by the mayor
was tried before Recorder Johnson
on Tuesday. Geo. C. Brownell the
defeudeuts lawyer being engaged
with another case, Gordoa fy Hay

try'the case. From the commence

that the case was largely to be
fought on technical points' of law,
and net on the merits of the case.
The prosecution produced three wit
nesses who testified that they had
secured what they called whiskey
but Which they had purchased un
der some different name. They
here rested their case and the de
fense moved to dismiss the case for
want of evidence to prove that the
city had a legal ordiuance against
selling liquors, by their failure to
prove the signatures of the then
acting Recorder and Mayor. After
several legal tilts between council
in reference to’ points of law Judge
Johnson sustained the motion to
dismiss the case and the defendent
was discharged and his bond releas
