Some of the largest and]most deli-
. cions cherries that < w r pleased the
taste of man are now being picked
from the orchards around Rstacada.
In 1907 forest fires in the United
States destroyed $31,589 worth of
timber, and in 1905, $101,282 worth
of timber. The forest ranger is do
ing something for his country.

Ed. Boner and Wm. Dale came

old pond, but the crowd wasn’t of
the best— too many swells in the
ocean.
Willie Richards was taken to a
Portland hospital where, on Mon
day, he was given a surgical opera
tion for an affection for the throat.
He was brought home Tuesday.
W. H. Wilson, a brother of J. R.
Wilson, and his family spent Sun

return voyage to their home at Val

Burbank’s Phenomenal
A new berry has made its appear
ance in Estacada.

grown by W. H. Holder of Garfield
It is the Burbank Phenomenal.
It closely resembles the Logan ber
ry in looks, but is more meaty, has
a milder taste, and is a smoother
berry. Mr. Holder, who is going
into the fruit growing business to
considerable extent, has a number
of bushes of the Phenomenal which
are yielding quite good.
Oregon City’s High School
A news item in Monday’s Ore
gonian says: “ Education has taken
u long step forward in Oregon City,
this year and for the first time a 4-
grade high school will be main
tained, commencing at'the opening
of the Fall term on Sept. 21.” Two
assistants have been provided Prof.
McKee who will teach the sciences.
The course will embrace all of the
branches usually taught in a high
school.
A Cherry Party and Hayrack
Ride
Blackberry picking is the usual
thing nowdays.
The berries are
said to be not quite so plentiful as
they were last year. One family in
town has put up nearly 100 quarts
already.
