The Faruilan l Reporter, a paper published in Rev. Parounagian*s former home, says of him: “ The subject of this sketch is an Armenian by birth, but a very parti- otic American by adoption. He left his native country in 188S, after graduate l from the Central Turkey College, an American institution at Aintab, and after teaching a year at Cairo, Egypt, came directly to the United States, his vessel arriving at N. Y . harbor July 4, 1S89. He spent the first year in this country at manual labor and as a book agent. At the beginning of the second year he became city missionary for the Armenians at Troy, N. Y . He remained there for nearly a year, when he entered school at Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, N. J. where he remained three years and gradu ated from that institution of learning. He joined the Vermont M. K. conference in 1893, serving several charges in that conference. June 2, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Clemma C. Mathews, daughter of Judge Mathews of Barton Landing, Vermont. He served as a minister of the gospel in that st ite until 1904, when Bishop Fowler transferred him to the Northern Indiana conference, and Bishop McCabe, at the session of the conference held at Muncie in 1904, appointed him to fill the charge at Spiceland, where hewas signally successful in the work of his master. The membership of the church was more than doubled during his two years’ pastorate there, and he built a new cement block church edifice in Spiceland at a cost of $7000, betides repairing the church at Ogden in the same charge at a cost of £1000. Since liis pastorate at Farmland, Brother Parounagian, by his ability as a minis ter and a man of sterling Christian character and worth, has won many warm and devoted admirers, not only among his own parishioners, but also with people out side of his church. He is a preacher of more than ordinary ability, and his efforts in this field of la bor have been attended with success. His friends have faith in him as a minister and believe that the zenith of liis ability and power for good in his chosen life work has not yet been reached. Beaides, he is a mixer. He is what may be termed a “ bale fellow, well m et.” He is genial, social, friendly. He is as poplar with the younger as with the older class of people. These qualities do not interfere with him being an upright and Christian m an.” $400 at 6 per $600 “ “ $800 “ “ $1500 " “ See Bank of William K. Haviland, M. D.
