Gronewald passed through on Wednesday evening on his way to Prineville to assist in judging the Central Oregon oratorical contest. Rev. J. I. Parker of Wapinitia will deliver a sermon to the gradating classes of our school on Sunday evening, May 18th. The address will be given in the high school auditorium. Saturday at 10:30 a. m. Wapi nitia and Maupin will clash arms in a spelling contest at the high school building. Four teams will compete. The 3rd and 4th grades 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th, and high schools In the afternoon the school boards of the two towns will give a demonstration of some real horseshoe pitching, and two baseball game will be played between the school girls vs. girls, and boys vs. boys Fishing Tackle-We have The kind that gets the fish. . Maupin Drug Store. Wamic News Mr. and Mr3. F. M. Driver re turned to Hood River Saturday after two weeks stay here and at Smock. Mrs R. A. Driver accompanied them from The Dalles to Hood River. Herbert Morrow and Miss Claris Zumwalt, and Max Wood ruff and Miss Verda Morrow were matried in The Dalles Sat urday afternoon. They are pop ular young people here and have the many kind wishes( of their friends here for a happy future. After the wedding the bridal couples went on to Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Morrow going to Seat tle on their honeymoon journey. Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff returned Monday from Portend and will reside on the groom's farm here. Mrs. F. A. Morrow and Mrs Francis Mor.is of Pasco, who went to The Dalles Saturday to attend the weddings, accompa nied Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff to Portland. Enlarging of the dam will be completed this week, and next work on the power house will be commenced. Mr, Woodcock ex pressed assurance of complete installation of the power plant by the 1st of July. Dewey Bothwell passed away at four o'clock this afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Bothwell four miles west of Maupin. Mr. Bothwell had been a severe sufferer fcr the past four years. Dr. Stovall and Mr. Newman started for Clear lake Sunday, but snow in the road two miles this side of the lake stopped further progress. Mrs. A. L Anderson and lit tle daughter of Walla Walla were guests of friends here the latter part of the week. A dense cloud of smoke settled over this section Monday even ing. Mercury has rised to 80 much of the time since. Sheriff Chrisman was a Mau pin caller Monday evening. Carmel Woodcock attended the weddings and accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morrow as far as Hood River on their way to Portland. She was a guest over night of Miss Lenore Woodcock. Miss Avis Sailing after attend ing the weddings in The Dalles went with Mr. and Mrs. Herbert on the banks of Hood River in the shade of tall fir trees and green underbrush. Carmel and her grandmother returned to The Dalles late Sunday afternoon. J. M. McCorkle Was in The Dalles Monday from Maupin. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Slusher were in The Dalles Monday from Dufur. Mrs. Ruby Petteys was in The I Dalles Friday from Sherar. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Driver and Lenore Woodcock and their guests, Carmel Woodcock and her grandmother made a long drive by automobile through the Hood River valley which was sweetly fragrant from the early apple blossoms. They ate lunch visit their children on Juniper Flat. Jojin and Charley Farlow were in town Saturday.
