The M Published Every Friday at Maupin, Oregon, Mrs, W. I. Morrison, Publisher Subscription: One Year $1.50, Six Entered as second class mail post office at Maupin, Oregon, Roosevelt Highway way; the seven great 'const coun ties comprising one-seventh of the area of the state ure jtiHt as en tbusiaslically working to develop the irrigation projects of the Itast ern fjregonians. An apt illustration of the friend y spirit that is animating the const counties is a rally held at Gardiner' on the Umpipia liver recently when settlors came by the hundreds to boost for the Roosevelt Highway bond i.ssu. Some of thoHO in attendance came from points miles distant in boats, More than a thousand gathered al Gardiner to hear President S. C, . Pier of the Roosevelt Highway Association explain the wonderful possibilities that will be opened up by what he declared will be the most useful agricultural road und greatest scenic boulevard in the world. The assemblage not only endois ed the highway project, but it went on record with a uuamioue resolution favoring the passage of the Gallagher bill whereby the utale is given authority to lend its ciedil to irrigation projects approv ed by a (special commission con sisting of the state superintendent of banks, the slate engineer and 1 the attorney general. Letters and telegrams endorsing the Gallagher bill are pouring into the headquaites of the Roosevelt Highway Association at the Im perial Hotel from the chambers of commerce and other public spirited organizations all over the coast. Similar endorsements for the coast highway are reaching the acsociu ' t;on by the scoro from thoiiiiga tiou belts of eastern, southern and central Oregon. The two bills are of kindred im portance. The Roosevelt, highway if built will bring millions of home seekers to Oregon. These will not, only vuw the unpnialltd Hcenery offered by the highway, but they will seek opportunities to invest their money and make their Jiomo in Oi'gon. Great etreUlies of land in the irrigation sections offer the best kind of chance foi l investments. The people of East ern Oregon ' and other sections that are looking to their futuie development through iirigation are only too well aware that any thing they do to insure the con struction of the coast highway will (bo therefore greatly to their ow n interest. For this reason they have been glad U get behind the highway movement. H.irboi, North Bend. Eastern Oregon is mighty inter ested iu tho passage of the special I innasutc known as the Irrigation lnti-ici:! Guaranteed Measure, to be voted on n the coming special election to be held en June liid. New Location Maupin Blacksmith Shop JAMES , AUDREY, Props. General BlacKsmithing all Rinds repair work wood worli, grinding Horseshoeing a Specially Times Months Sets, Three Months 5Cc matter September 2, 1914, at the under the Act of March 3, 1870, lhis bill will cost the state as a whole nothing and will open the way for immediate development of hundreds of thousands of acres of the best land in the world that is now either too swampy or too arid to produce a healthy wed. The Pacific Coast counties are mighly interested iu the passage of the measure know as the tu o je- velt Usghway bill, providing fer the building of tho noith and south highway along tho Pac'.fio coast, the bonds not to bo issued unless matched by a special fp propriation from Congress. This measue will not cost the state much and will greatly bene fit the isolated people of the coast counties, who now have to wait until the fog settles in order to travel these roads. Let Eastern Oregon boost fur and vote for the Roosevelt high way and the support of the coist sections for iu return we gracious ly receive the support of the coast sections for the interest Guarantee bill. Malimer Enterprise, Vale. Barnsdale, Ore., April 24i h Editor Tillamook Headlight: It seems that I mutt unburden myself regarding the Roosevelt highway. Namely, what it will do for this county. What the rail road did for this county is in, comparison.. 1 came here several years ago on a dinky little boat called the Elmore. What times we used to have getting our pro ducts out of the county and get ting the merchandise we needed. How often we bud to go without mail.. Rather night marish .n hen we think about it. These boats are not tunning any more, and the railroad has everything then own way. With hard surfaced roads we can send an auto truck for freight or anything el;?e wt may need. What will be the value of ibis highway to the people o1 Eastern Oregon? I bo yaltio from a military point of view. With tho cnemv in possession of the coast and no means to bring troops. The people of Eastern Oregon would l'cel far more comfortable. It is the duty oevcry loyal ciiuon to suppoil this measure, for the protection of our property and the coming gen erations. Any time is a good lime to support this measure. But now is the accepted time. For the reason that we may purchase $l worth for 50 cents. I have m t space to expound the advantages derived from this measure. The disadvantages could be written with a cipher on the head of a pin A Good Roads Bootter.
