Red Cross War Fund Drive, just
closed, speaks well for loyally,
ability and enthusiasm for this
worthy cause. The results of the
- drive are as follows:

Proceeds from dance, sup
per and sales 855.17
Total receipts $1113.12
Expenditures

for hall rent for dance

Net proceed $1103.12
The quota for Maupin was $300
making us over the top with

Church Notice

Services are being held nightly
in the tent and if the weather is
favorable will be held there over

Sidney Wilson and wife arrived
here from Camp Lewis Tuesday
morning. Mr. Wilson has a ten
days' furlough.
Binkie Tapp has enlisted and
will go to Portland and enlist at a
training school.
Mr. and Mrs. M. II. Staines
and family came out, from The
Dalles Wednesday for a few dayb'
vixit with friends.
Dr. Shannon was called Sunday
to see Bonnie Flinn who is quite
sick will) pneumonia,
A little daughter was born
Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Hartman.
J. II. Keep is having a truck
make daily trips from his mill to
Maupin, hauling out scrap iron to
ship to Portland.
. Mose Delore has purchased a
new Overland.
Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Flinn made
a trip to Tvgh Thursday. Mrs.
Chester Briltain returned home
with them and will remain with
them for some time.
Mr. and Mrs. Osborne started
for The Dalles Thursday to attend
the circus, but their car broke
down on the wav
Work has commenced on the
three telephone lines in this vicini
ty and in a few days we will be
saying 'Hello Maupin'.

here to buy a car, ha vine purchas
ed a Ford while in The Dulles
recently and is the first one here
to have the new wire wheels.
In our announcement last week
of the marriage of Wilbur Mulva
ney and Miss Thelma Woodcock
we made a mistake in the names.
It was Mr. Mulvaney's youoger
brother Sid, 'who is the happy mn
Mr. and Mrs. Mulvany arrived
Monday from The Dulles and are
receiving the congratulations of
thi'ir many friend here.
Hill End arrived Monday from
Poitland visiting his mother and
brothers here.
A. A, Bonney and children
were here from Tygh Monday,
Mrs. A. E Lake went to The
Dalies Wednesday, attending the
Red Cross meeting. She returned
Friday.
Ahout two-thirds of the entire
neighborhood went to The Dalles
Thursday to attend the bijf circus.
No memorial services were held
here on Decoration day, though
many persons visited the cemeter
ies, placing beautiful boquets of
Howers on the graves of loved ones
who are silently sleeping.
Mrs. Hattie Johnson and little
son Harold, who spent two weeks
with relatives here, left Wednes
day for Toppenish, Wn.
Miss Nellie. Hunt left Monday
for her home at Mountain View on
the Deschutes riyer.
Mrs. Nancy Sanford was very ill
a few days but is much improved
now. Mrs. Annie Gilmore arriyed
Friday from Cresswell.

Fair association held its annual
meeting at the Odd Fellows' .hall
in Tygh Saturday afternoon, elec
ting officers and transacting othei
business. A'. A. Bonney was re
elected president and J. T. Harper ;
vice president. Both are of Tygh
Valley. F. A. Morrow of Wamic
was reelected secretary-treasurer,

dr. and Mrs. Mack Palmateer.
Andy Bailes and his mother,
Mrs. Mary Beaty, went to Sherar
Monday to meet the latter's sister.
Airs. Laura Lawson and two
daughters, the Misses Verna and
Laura from Fossil,- Mrs. Lawson
is a delegate to the Baptist con
ference to be held at Smock. 5
The Baptist denomination will
hold their annual conference at
Smock, beginning Wednesday and
continuing oyer Sunday. Many
delegates from various parts of the
Hate will be there. A basket din
ner will be served Sunday.
Exie Morgan arrived from The
Dalles Monday.
Mrs. Ella Steers aud Mrs. Dol
lie Kistner came up from Tygh
Monday, bringing Mrs. Sophia
Kistner, who is a guest at the C.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. McCorkle,
Mrs. Matie Patison and Miss
Crystal Pratt went to The Dalles
Friday to witness the Commence
ment exercises at the high school,
Miss Dorothy McCorkle being one
of the graduates. She accompa
nied her parents home.

and little daughter were here from
Smock Sunday.
Terry Jones of Smock went to
