In common with most American
cities, Cadillac has been handi
capped for several years with &
shortnge of houses, and as it Is
the desire of the lumber company
to retain as many of their formex
employes as possible, it was lmper?
ative that the former residents of
Jennings have some place to live
when they came to this city with
the mills.
In Jennings there nre upwards
of about a hundred very well built
and desirable houses, the property
of the company. The problem was
to move them to Cadillnc intact
without tearing down or damag
ing the structures.
A thorough Investigation of dif
ferent methods of moving the vil
lage was made and at the conclu
sion of this investigation a unique
tlan of using a motor truck and
especially designed and built trail
fr was adopted. The houses, were
raised by Jacks, the specially do
rlgned trallor backing underneath,
then ' the buildings lowered until
tho weight rested entirely on tho

It was merely a matter of trans
portation. After various building movers
had been consulted In connection
with tho plan of moving the houses
Intact, all but one of them said
that It was not a praotlcot method
and could not be successtully ac
complished. Tho ono exception

that It could be successfully carried-out,
but offered If necessary
to back the venture with his last
dollar. The project was started
last fall nnd completed by the
close of January with the excep
tion of a warehouse, some of the
