Inside the largest, most commod ious drawing room on the siding, Lil lian Leitzel, and her husband, Al fredo Codona, likewise a world-fum-ous serialise, are hosts at a little supper party. "Vera," Misa Vera Bruce, trained by Alfredo; and Alfredo'a brother, Lalo, are there. And I am privileged to be there, too. So were Miss Leitsel's character dolls, lino, Ignata, and Leopoldina. But they would grow hearty and thrive on the carefully prepared fare of the HJngllng-Barnum circus. Is "Three Weeks. - Yet every man, however email or apparently insignificant his part. Is a very real part of the "big snow." The trapezes must he hung just so. The nets must be tied in nlace in just the right way. And It ia the hum ble workingmen who does It- the roustabouta wno ride tne first, second and third sections and is brother to hardship. Perhaps each one has some smbi tion, deep In his heart. Like Henry, for Instance. Henry Is Miss Leltzel's tent boy. "Good heavens, Henryl What la the meaning of this? Don't let them tether that goat near my tentl What a stupid boy!" Yet one knows that Is only a way of apeaking for Mire Leitzel. She knows thst Henry is alwaya depend able Henry. 1 Meet Mr. Parlsesu Henry is French. But there Is no "Henri1' in his name, just plain Henry Joseph Psriseau. io waa born in Massachusetts, snd his parents still lire in Fall River, Mass. "Do you ever think of quitting the show, Henry?" I aak him. "Not unless the show aulta." waa hia quick rejoinder. He confided to me that he has been sticking to circuses now for several years, the only one of his family with tha show. And Henry Is ambitious. "Well, now, I alwaya did want to take a try at the trapeze," confessed Henry, when pressed tor nis plans. "1 hsven't done It so far there hasn't been anyone to learn me. But maybe this winter, it J gel to go with Miss Leltsel and Mr. Codona with their own circus Into Mexico, I'll get to try. What 1 learn, I learn fast." "111 tint yon In a story. Henry. I told him. This time I sm taking Thenl's place In the opening pageant around the "big top." 1 will wear her ostrich leather neanoress wnn n dangling pearls, and her spsngled costume. I will ride wish Lucl;;i Ieers, trapeze artist, and one ot tne Rleffenach girls, a skilled eques trienne. We are all part of the "scenery" on a float drawn by two faithful camels which hauled guns and ammunition In Mcsopotsmia during the World war, and are now owned by the circus. At the first sound of the bugle "Nellie Kelly" a little Spitz dog has rushed out to Merle Kvsns, the hand director, who sounds the bugle. "Nel lie Kelly never fails to do this. "Ts-ts-ta! Ta-ta-ta! Second bugle. Everyone ready. The band strikes np. Then round snd round the "big top," and the show is hospitable "city of tents" with which 1 have now trouped day and night. I know I love it. I know I shall never forget It. Who can forget - Liitue bva tne midget elephant with the . droll way of rolling her head from aide to aide under her pointed clown hat? Who can forget '"Zero" and "Arctic", the two giant white dogs. Siberian sheep-dog crossed with Alaskan husky, which haul the "pig eon hotel?" Who can forget the ?rancing little zebras, trained by 'rank Asher and Mary Leonard, or the marvelous horses trained by Tex" Elmlundt? N Moat of all who can forget the wonderful hospitality .f hc pcolf who make the circus what it Is? 1 know I must Bhake the dust of the circus from my walking ehoea. But wouldn't I love to wipe them on Miss Leltzel's little door-mat?. Yes, she hns a door-mat in front of her tent. It doesn't say the proverbial "Wel come," but her welcome can be a very warm one. Well "so-long, and good luck."
