Employes said spark from

part of the roofing over the stor
age tanks. A broken hose coupling
delayed the fight with the flames
but the damage was slight.

All banks in the city will close at
1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, offi
cials announced Wednesday, The

quite a number like Mr. Johnson
who can show them.
Though Charlie Swango recently
sold much of his fine herd of
Guernseys, he has some prize win
ning young heifers in the show this
year.
Cal Young rolled up along noon
with a fine hitch of yoked oxen.
Cal has exhibits in a great many
departments but is perhaps proudeBt
of bis fine roan and his horses.

Thompson & Travlllion, of Cres
well, have a fine showing of blooded
Jerseys, while G. S. Thompson with
Swango uphold Guernsey reputation.
The cattle exhibit is just a mite
"off" this year, mainly due to recent
large sales of stock to California
and the fact that a good many are
now exhibiting in California.
In the sheep building there are
some exceptional black nosed Shrops
shown by Walter Hubbard, I. M,
Francis, C. B. Wheeler, II. C.
Wheelerd, S. H. Jacobs and George
Watson.
You can't miss the Eugene Garden
club's exhibit on beautiful roads. It's
just outside the main building and
shows graphically how beautiful and
valuable scenery can be marred and
destroyed by ruthless advertising and
by tourist carelessness.
The McCrae Brothers' have a fin
display of gouts. Bart Klnnnignn and
Riddle & Son are showing tdieep.
Warner Zumwalt has a showing of
swine that is worth a journey.
Don't forget to look at the forest
service exhibit warning against fire
in the woods. Jt is timely.
There's plenty of music at the fair.

Mrs. J. Gould Dies
At Daughter's Home
Mrs. Julia E. Gould passed away
sometime Tuesday night or Wednes
day morning at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Elma Moss, of West
Springfield. Mrs. Gould was 77 years
old a ndcame from Portland two
months ago to make her home with
her daughter.
Survivors include five daughters:
