Portland Wednesday. A study of the
problem haa been made by Commis
sioner Barbour of Portland and he
hopes to collect further data at the
meeting.
Invited to Rose Festival
An invitation to Eugene to partici
pate in the annual rose festival at
Portland has been received by the Eu
gene chamber of commerce. Officers'
names in the Radiators, marching club
of Eugene, are tequcated by the Port
and executive committee. The Radia
tors and a group of Eugene girls en
tered in the rose parade last year
drew much favorable comment from
Portlanders.
To Speak at Grove
O. F. Fletcher, county agricultural
agent, will speak at Cottage Grove
Wednesday night at a community
gathering at 8 o'clock at the cham
ber of commerce. Mr. Fletcher's topic
will be "Control of Insect Pests in
Gardens." Prof. A. G. B. Bouquet, of
Oregon State college horticultural de
partment, will speak on "Vegetable
Gardens."
WBI Hold Breakfast
Missionary societies of all churches
will meet for a May breakfast, accord-'
mg to plans made at a meeting of a
committee of the Union Missionary
society at the home of Mrs. F. 8.
Beistel Tuesday night. The. breakfast
will be held at the Baptist church at
9 o'clock, Thursday, May 9. A pro
gram will follow the breakfast.
Health Worker at Florence
Miss Beth Konkel, executive secre
tary of the Lane County Public Health
association, went to Florence Wed
nesday, accompanied by Miss Jesn
Besley, educational director of the
Oregon State Tuberculosis associa
tion. Miss Konkel planned to meet
with the Florence health unit and Miss
Besley to speak at the high school.
Sermon Series Outlined
Rev. Martin P. Simon, pastor of
the Grace Lutheran church, will con
tinue his sermon series on Luther's
catechism, preaching Sunday, March
17 at 11 a. m. on "The Fourth Com
mandment." This year marks the
400th ar-niveraary of the Luther
catechism.
Handle Rodent Poison
The firm of Morris and aon of
Mapleton. has been added to the list
of merchants supplied with poisoned
barley for use in rodent control work,
according to County Agent O. 8.

To Remodel House
O. W. Henzler was granted a per
mit Wednesday to remodel the honse
at 1100 Third avenue west at a cost
of $300 and to build a garage costing
$100 at 1120 Third avenue west.
Returns to Canada
Ray Block has returned to his
home at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan,
after spending the winter here with
his parents, Sir, and Mrs. W. H.
Block.

H. A. Renninger and H. F. Warren,
county commissioners from Linn
county, were in Eugene Wednesday
and called on the Lane county court.
