Mr. I,andru graduated this June from the Vniversity of Oregon as a mnjor in history The Collefje of Alaska is located the farthest north of any college on the American con tinent and has an enrollment of KHXJ students. Oilson and Martha Phillips (lilson. the latter a well known writer for the National (le ogrnphic. and both explorers of the Arctic circle, are visitors in Kuzene this week from Fort una, Cal., as guests of Miss Florence Pickinson. Mrs, Gilaon has one of her articles in the AiiRUPt National Geographic, "A Woman's Winter on Spitzbergen." Hammond, also driving a Caille racer, was second, winning the hunting knife presented by the Hendershott gun store. In the next race, "class C,M Iyd Allen won first place aud the cup pre sented by the Link I Hi Huy radio shop. Tatman of Curvallia was second and Vickers was third. The free-for-all was the big race of the day and was fought from start to finish aud brought the crowd to their feet as Ixyd Allen romped across the .finish line winning by a small margin. Tat man of Corvallis whs second and Ann Hamblen third. Vickers was the winner of the spe cial prize in this race. The ladies' rare was the last on the program. Miss a Porte driving a Cnille racer, winning y a long lead. After the races the drivers were served a free for at) picnic lunch and the rest of the day was spent riding surf boards and swimming.
