'Fortnightly Benefit is Large Event One of the springtime's most elab orate social events was the annual benefit bridge and sewing party of the Eugene Fortnightly club given Friday afternoon in the beautiful chapter house of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Millrace and Hilyard streets. Hours were from two-thirty o'clock on. Forty-sir tables of bridge and sew ing were reserved uud some seventy five or more guests called for tea later. The rooms were profusely decked in large baskets of Scotch Broom, lilacs, iris, upple biossoms, and tulips. The tea tuble wus especially lovely with its large centerpiece of piuk, lavender, and yellow Darwiu tulips, combined with nnparagtis fern. A handsome imported tea cloth of Vene tian embroidery and filet was used for the cover. Four tall yellow tapers set in cut glass candlesticks with prism were used with the centerpiece. Receiving the guests at the- door were Misses Corinne Carpenter aud Marjorle Wllhelm. To welcome the guests were MrB. Dan E. Clark, Mrs. Arnold Bennett Hall, Mrs. George DeBar. Taking tickets were .Mrs. W. F. GllNtrap and Mrs. Grace Van Bosklrk. Hostesses in the bridge rooms were MrB. J. H. MeKinlcy, Sirs. Kenneth E. Hudson, Mrs. O. F. Stafford, Mrs. W. B, B. Willcor. Purple Iris aud yellow daisies were used for the tea table centerpiece and in decorating. Mrs. J. M. Miller, Mrs. John J. Mc Ewan, Mrs. George P. Hitchcock, and Mrs. Orville Waller cut ices and poured. Mrs. Herald W. White and Mrs. Kenneth C. Abies assisted the hostesses. Misses Frances Eight, Shirley McGuire, and Marvin Jane Hawkins assisted in serving.
