No Proof There ean be little value in dis using this miracle except as it sym-i-.fi... ihe lite-givine power of Christ ,nd the (iospel. Ve have neither proof nor disproof outside of Ihe Crenel Of tllC HICKieill IIS It IS n ti'i'i- fd ami if miracles could bo explained, Ihfy ivould be no longer, niirneles. We have not nie full facts, and above ill, we have no medical testimony. Dorcas may not have been actually dud. I have had occasion recently to look up in The ('ongri'Kiitionnlist ot some years ago, 1 think it wns way back in Ihe eighties of Inst century, a story almost as remarkable as this in our lesson, the full truth of which, I believe, wns amply verified. It con cerned a well-known Congregational minister. A man of saintly and noble character who had to all appearances died. He wns laid out for burial nnd was about to be interred when a wo man, who had formerly nursed him through an illness, who bad not, heard of his denth. in response to a spirit ual prompting that Bhe could not ex plain, came to inquire concerning him. When she found him apparently dead, she began a treatment, chuf fing and rubbing, which soon resulted in the apparently dead man coming to life. The' circumstances urc told with full detail in this article in the old number of The Congregalionalist, and a somenhnt remarkable thing is that, theiigli tins minister was conscious nil through the period of his trance Mid knfw jvlmt was happening nround him without being shin to give nny sign and though he understood, of course, lhat he wns likely to he buried nlive, he had during his trance a remnrk able experience nf the presence of Ihe Saviour who had brought to him great peace of mind that he had not alttays experienced during his time of wakeful consciousness. Reminder of M'racles I'rohalily it is records such as this that constitute the background of New Testament stories of raising from the dead. Text: Acts 9:32 43 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quar ters, ho came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. And there he found a certain man named Eneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.. And Peter said unto him, Eneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise and mak thy bed. And he arose immediately. And nil that dwelt at Lydda and Raron saw him, and turned to the Lord. Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple- named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman wns full of good works and almsdceds which she did. And It came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppn, and the dis ciples had heard that Peter was there, they sont unto him two men, d&slring him that he would not delay to come to thorn. .... Then Peter arose and went with them. When ho was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all tho widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and gar ments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and' when she saw Peter, she Bat up. And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up; and when ho had called the saints and widows, he presented her alfve. And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord. And it came to pass, thatxhe tarried many days in Jhppa with one Simon, a tanner. spiritual realm that have never been by nny meanw explored, and that are still in a large measure sealed in spite of all the progress of science. Let me, however, again mmim! my readers that the greatest miracles of all anywhere iu the New Testament, or outside of its pagen, is the miracle of the new life in Christ, nnd the les sons that tell us the stories of the miraculous happenings never Imve their full effect upon our lives until they bring the miracle of grace to pass in purselvcs.
